Foreword Living in the heart of the Lincoln country, we, the class of 1958, chose Abraham Lin- coln as the theme of our Sphinx. Throughout our book we have quoted sayings il- lustrating his widom and humor. We are proud to live in this beautiful, historical community, world-known because Lincoln, too, lived here. In this present ana of uncertainty, we repledge our faith in Lincoln's ideal of a land of togethemess and 'a country of the people. I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. -Abraham Lincoln

WE The faculty and student body honor Harry J. Aden, President of the First National Bank and an ,alumnus of Petersburg Harris High School. Shortly after his graduation from Harris High School, he began working in the Bank and has been associated with it ever since. For more than fifty years he has maintained 'an .abiding interest in the betterment of this community. Last year Mr. Aden established a scholarship fund from which an award of S400 is to be made annually to a member of the graduating class of Harris High School for use in the first year of college. Ronald Moss, who won the first award, is now studying at the University of Illinois. We are especially proud to have this scholarship resource made possible by one of the alumni of Harris High School. We gratefully 'acknowledge Mr. Aden's generosity and commend him for his own success. May our children and our children's children to a thousand generations continue to enjoy the benefits conferred upon us by a united country. A. Lincoln PAGE FOUR HO QR
