V. 9 4' Character Education MR MOUNTS The development of human personality as a goal must not be confused with rndrvidualrstrc action as a method of attaining the good life Often Democracy is mrsconcerved as being absolute or un hampered freedom for the rndrvidual and too seldom is it viewed as a social concept Freedom is relative It rs neither absolute nor and lives within his rights as a dereocratic person only rn relation to the welfare of others Any right or privilege is accompanied by a duty or obligation Americans should extend their belief in Democracy so as to make rt include every aspect of their lrves To contrrbute toward thrs all rnclusrve application of Democracy rs the supreme func tron of the school That the ideal of Democracy gives a promrnent role to coopera trve lrvrng or the sharing of purposes and interests is illustrated in the production of this yearbook To produce rt required the combined efforts and interests of the members of the Senror Class 5 O fixed. E ' xi Q-Q X f v- H -x 'X N S x ,W Q .gf ' Q , 2 MM X , UW ,I 0 ,fl XX 5, . , - , -mi , W- . fW.,y ,,.,,Q,,,,h,,..,,A.A....f - ' C ,, Ex 44 fix 5 ,F 3 M-.M,Q.m.-wwf I fn, N -.,, -M Mill I X, 5 W J ' 5 CN X' 1 X , ' 2 ' f 5 x V I W LjMM-M - h M4 ' J - .,,,. ,..,,,.f NWN'-4 If nf' V ' It has only been four short years since we entered high school a group of forty eight scared Freshies Now we are Senrors after study ing sharing defeats and successes and working together toward one goal It was hard to get a start our first year but with the help of our advisor Mr Beck we began by electing officers President Tom Kuchrnic Vice President Tom Lrghtholder Secretary Joanne Fife Treasurer Ed Johnson and a student council representative Bob Roach We also chose the yellow rose for our flower blue and gold for colors and Knowledge is Power as our motto It was all too soon that we got word of mittation which would make us full fledged freshres The dance afterwards made initiation a happy unforgettable remembrance though Our projects for the year were selling sweatshirts to the C adj students programs at the basketball games pencils with the basketball schedule printed on them and sponsoring an after game dance With a new advisor Mr Moses we began our Sophomore year feeling more confident of ourselves as we started to discuss various ways to build up our treasury This was a busy year for us selling ice cream at noon and after school and candy and potato chips at the basketball games We had lots of fun planning our after game dance and decorating for our round and square dance held in the Spring of 1951 The big event of our Sopho more year was choosrng the style of our class rings which we were to receive the following year The rings were dlfferent from any other years rn that they had our 1n1t1als on the outside Class officers for this year were Presl dent Bob Roach Vice President Tom Lightholder Secretary Eleanor Matthews Treasurer Shirley Webster Student Council Representatives were Joanne F1fe and Ed Johnson September 1951 by now we were really upperclassmen With Mr Moses advising us we elected Ed ohnson as President Carole Moore Secretary and eanne Patterson as Treasurer Herbert Richards and Sally Keeler were Student Council Representatives Our treasury was substantial but we added to it by selling Christ mas cards holding a round and square dance and an after game dance We also presented a play entitled Who Wouldn t Be Crazy Before Christmas we received our long awaited class rings and everyone excitedly showed them to the other students Soon rt was time for the prom and banquet which was held at the George Washing ton Hotel All of our prolects were successful and lust before summer vacation we had a picnic at Washington Park At last we are Seniors was the cry at the beginning of our Sen1or year Mr Moses was our advlsor and we elected officers President Herbert Richards Vrce President Tom Lightholder Secretary Sally Keeler and Treasurer Skip Fischer That year we had four representatives in student council and all of them held ofiices Presxdent Ed ohnson Vice President Tom Kuchinic Secretary Joanne F1fe and Treasurer Marion Wallace Our mam project was the yearbook Ember After Freshman initiation and the Senior Frosh Dance we presented a play entrtled Htdtory Hillbilly Weddm which added considerably to our treasury We aga1n had an after game dance round and square dance and paid our annual class dues On May first we attended the Prom at the South Hills Country Club as guests of the uniors with Baron Elliot providing the music Two weeks later the un1orSen1or Banquet was held in the cafeteria of the grade school building This new prom procedure was a welcome change because of its convenience to all Thanks uniors for a wonderful prom and banquet' Our four year program came to a close with baccalaureate and graduatron -,Af Graduation and leaving all of our frtends and classmates to enter into a new world of adventure was a sad event for everyone Tomorrow when we look back on our school days at Peters Township High School we will realize then that they were the happiest days of our lives 2 - -4 - H . . , - 1 , . 3 1 ' 1 - , 1 ' 1 1 1 1 if 1 1 , - I 7 1. - 11 W . . . . . ,, , ,, 1 1 I , , , . 1 1 1 9 . , - 1 ' ' 1 ' y 1 1 1 1 ' - . . , J 1 1 1 J 5 ' . , ' - - at , . 1 nf - - ' ' 1 - 1 ,, . ,, . . . .
