Since New Orleans and Mardi Gras are synonymous, a Carnival Krewe was formed at our school in 1949. The main thought was to acquaint the students with the activities incident to a large Carnival ball, hoping thereby to enrich the students socially, culturallly, and educationally. The members of the Krewe not only participate in the ball, but they also attend two or three socials during the year. Through the guidance of our principal, Mr. Poche, Peters had Carnival balls for the past three years. Every one has been successful, and our school has been highly com- mended for these social affairs. The name of the Carnival Krewe, Krewe ot Iarvis, was taken from Samuel Iarvis Peters. This year's theme was Creole Days. CAR I AL ii LEWl6
