COLLEAGUES REMEMBER... Having served on the staff of this institution since September first, 1 940, Mr. McKinney retired at the end of October, 1969. His experience in teacher education goes back to 1937 when he was appointed to the staff of Ottawa Model School. There have been a total of seven principals of this college since its founding in 1908 as Peterborough Normal School. Mr. Duncan Walker, the first principal is the only one under whom Mr. McKinney has not served on staff. Mr. McKinney's story is one of a man who has given generously of himself. In his own natural, frank way he has touched the lives of thousands. Most of the graduating class of 1970 knew Mr McKinney only two months. Were you not impressed with the facility with which he established rapport with a new class? He learned your names not merely to streamline class routinesg -- he was interested in every individual as a person. Over the years his ability to inspire and assist has been appreciated by students of every age. As a teacher he has taught children, tyros in the profession, and experienced teachers as well. As a dynamic music teacher, his accomplish- ments range from the training of choirs that thrilled their audiences, to the transformation of countless out-of- tunes into the status of follower for better.l His wise counsel has helped many a student over a rough spot. Active in community programmes, Mr. McKinney has been a scout leader, is a past president of the Peterborough Community Concert Association, and a board member of Kawartha Medical. He has been active in So-Ed and other Y. M, C, A. programmes. Many other contributions to community ventures could be mentioned. But now we want to congratulate Mr. McKinney on having reached this stage in his life having retained so much zest for living. Our very best wishes go with him now that he has time to enjoy his gardening, photography, and especially travel. We hope he thinks of us when he is at OSAKI for EXPO 7O! 11
