Principales Message Principal H. WILLIAM SNELL Suffolk University B. S. Boston State College M. S. Curriculum Coordinator NEIL R. HOWARD Keene State College B. E.; M.E. Elementary Principal DONALD E. MURPHY 10 St. Anselm's A. B. Your graduation from high school comes at a time in history when the opportunities for you to make a significant contribution to our society are all but un- limited. The unrest that seems to characterize the attitudes of so many young people today is largely being directed toward the adult population and the kind of world which you find difficult to accept. The result is frustration on your part, and this is understandable. But let me assure you that all people in all generations have experienced to some extent such frustration; it is part of the process of growing up. I can do no less than to encourage you to main- tain your ideals while, as the world revolves around practical solutions as well. Value your individuality but recognize the existence of your moral responsibility which is basic to the preservation of any ordered society. I urge you to accept the freedom which our society provides but accept also the fact that your responsibili- ties in the days to come will increase, as it has for those of us who are older, if you are to ensure the continuation of this freedom for your future children. It is, as it has always been, an imperfect world in which we live. The danger is that we tend to judge all adults by the few obnoxious individuals whose in- fluence can be seen in every element of society. Try to remember that we cannot judge all people by the distasteful actions of the few who always seem to attract more attention than the average law-abiding citi- zen. In the same manner, we should not misjudge all young people by the small vocal minority who strive for recognition and power at the expense of the many. I am greatly encouraged by the caliber of this year’s graduating class. You are better educated than your forefathers. You are more sensitive to human suffering and the inequities in our society and you are better equipped to challenge the future. But remember that you, too, will grow older and in a very few short years will probably be criticized for the world which you have established for the next generation. I sin- cerely believe, however, that the contribution which young people today are capable of making will result in a better life for all of us tomorrow.
