IN MEMODIUM. . . TRIBUTE A ghost, silent, smiling, Steps slowly through the hall; We cannot see. but it is he Who now has left us all. He walks so slowly up the steps, And wanders through his room Where once had been an air of joy, Now reigns an air of gloom. Yes, Ttis the ghost of Mr. Way, Who for so many a year Devoted all his kindly soul To the work he held so dear. Oh yes, we laughed and joked a bit And kidded him with glee, But he always had a kindly word To say to you and me. But is he really lost to us? I firmly shall maintain That in our hearts. memories of him Shall evermore remain. DR. PEOPLES, AS HE WAS Like the blue'gray waters of a great deep river Flowing ageless, timeless, through the broad, green land; Slowly, ever onward in its hrm path of progress Winding 0n, majestic, overpowering and grand: Like a mighty current sweeping barriers asunder Over broadened rocks and trees which try to stay its flow, Rugged surface trying vainly to conceal to man and beast The warm, earthly goodness lying hidden far below: Like an everrpresent ally gifted with the power To make this world a better one for decent, worthy souls Strengthening the weak, giving vigor t0 the needy The tide rolls on in splendor, never weary, never droll: Like the mighty redwood endowed with simple patience. Never in a hurry, never seeking fame 0r grandeur Like the day and night, always reaching out for Wisdom. The stream glides onward with a steady, gracious splendor: Yet, as everything alive must some time pass away And leave this complicated earth for better worlds on high, So must the widening stream at length flow into the ocean vast And drift in peace and quietness beneath Gode heaven in the sky. aGENE LEONARD ' V JTJIJlJ-I4HI-newLJljlle4W: V I 232::
