SUPERINTENDKENTS MESSAGE ET this short message be one of hope, of hope in what i the future holds for those who are prepared to meet it. No ship is designed for fair weather, but is made to with' stand the roughest storm. Otherwise dire results would be inevitable. In order to succeed in life it is necessary that you school yourselves to surmount the hard places as well as the easy. We realize that as you Seniors go out to face the world the future looks dark and confusing. If you construct poorly there may be troublesome days ahead. But the young man or woman who is able to develop the faculty of fore' seeing changes in the world of affairs and adjust himself or herself to meet the conditions, will succeed. We are now passing thru a storm. Let us have confidence that there will soon be light ahead, and each will find his place in the world. DAVID M. DURST. DAVID DURST MISS ELLIN TRUEBLOOD PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE E WAS a friend to man, and lived in a house by the side of the road -so wrote the blind bard of Greece, centuries ago, and from this Well known line, I draw my message to you for the year. It is a plea for simple friendliness. If you should learn perfectly all the facts of all the books in school and should leave unlearned the altogether important lessons of getting on with people-then, indeed, your education would be in vain. A friendly attitude, forbearance, and a kindly spirit is to be more desired than great richesg a tolerant, considerate understanding of the other felloW's rights and feelings is wisdom itself. Truly, the way to have a friend is to be one. Edu' cation is a failure unless it develops the capacity for friendship and the art of getting along with people. Life is a barren waste without friends. Every effort was made to record the year's activities accurately and completelyg assemf hlies, as well as class rooms, were invaded and photographed for the snap section. For economy's sake, it was necessary to omit the Literary Section. In spite of reduced hnancial support, however, the staif has endeavored to keep the high standard set by last year's Enterprise which won an All American rating from the National Scholastic Press Association. CLASS FOOTBALL The A Class team started the season with the lightest material in the last live years, and the lightest backfield in the history of the school. However, under the able coaching of Cap Schuster, the best defensive eleven in the league was developed, but with little scoring threat because of lack of power and weight. A. this year, if we may judge from the turnout, is fast becoming the most popular organization for the girls of high school. Every class has had enough members for at least one team for each activity, and as there was such a wealth of athletes in the junior class there were enough members for two good teams for each sport. The girls enjoy such sports as basketball, speedball, baseball, hockey, tennis, tumbling, and swimming. Under the leadership of our adviser, Miss Margaret Poole, these sports have proved very successful in class competition. Various requirements pertaining to health, scholarship, and athletic ability, fulilled during the semester, make the girls eligible to receive- awards at the semifannual banquet. These purple and white chenile emblems are worn proudly by their possessors, marking their progress in G. A. A. Socially, a banquet is held at the end of each semester. The fall banquet, held at the end of basketball season, proved an attraction to many of the facf ulty, as well as members of G. A. A. The feature attraction during the course of the banquet was nvefword speeches given by members of the faculty. At the conclusion of the supper a series of games such as pingfpong, shuifleboard, and a mock basketball game, wereiplayed. Those who received awards were: Stars-Eleen johnson, Regina Mastrup: Blocks-Elvyn Lindgren, Wings-Ruth McMillen, Elsie Nelson, Elizabeth Mehl, Thelma Nissen, Circles-Elizabeth Wasson, Hazel Tieman, Edna Soren' sen, Bernice Mello, Hulda Hammerman. Tumbling as an innovation in high school has received the enthusiastic support of the girls. Their progress in this new activity has been proved by the eager reception received during their programs given for Student Body, Girls' Club, and intermissions during basketball games. G. A. A. ACTIVITIES TENNIS If you have never experienced the thrill of ref turning a fast drive, you should see the tennis manf ager at once. Last fall witnessed the largest turnout for tennis ever experienced. During the fall tour' naments there were many hard fought games, finally concluding with the following victors: First Sin' gles - Eleen johnsong Second Singles - Theresa Friedman. First Doubles-Elsie Nelson and Ruth Mclviilleng Second Doubles-Miriam Neal and Eve' lyn Earhart. SPEEDBALL Speedball, the initial sport of the fall semester, was greeted by a large number of enthusiasts. The Seniors won the title of champs after several thrilling games. BASKETBALL Basketball is considered the chief activity of the fall semester. The Seniors managed to win the championship after several hard fought games. The AllfStar basketball team was composed of the most outstanding players selected from all the classes. HOCKEY Hockey is one of the most prominent activities in G. A. A. during the spring semester. Track and baseball are two of the most outstandf ing sports of the late spring season. Rivalry and spirit is running high. The Seniors are looking forward to holding the championship, but the lun' iors and Sophomores plan to give them plenty of competition. 1. Hockey. 2. Doubles champs. 3. Johnnie. 4. Miss Poole. 9.
