She sponsors the Delzell hour dances, is on the receiving end of Delzell men'.- troubles and she adores her boys Professor G. Holt Stock. Instructor in Voice and Public School Music, wanted to be a teacher from the pre-school stage, is sacrificing for the war by limiting himself to three cups of coffee a day—without sugar His biggest thrill was the first chorus trip in 37— I just couldn’t believe it could be true Professor Mary I Strickland teaches mathe- matics to the cadets, enjoys candy during chem lab. She desires a coke machine in the science hall; attended the Colorado School of Mines.— Professor of Chemistry. Miss Grace Tear. Professor of Education, be- friends lonesome freshmen, collects antique furniture and alassware Her new cat, Mr. , has replaced Susy. She writes verse, raises flowers, and has a icputation for having one of the most beautifully decorated houses in Peru. Dr Winston B Thorson taught airplane identi- fication and CAR to the cadets, in addition to his history classes He was proud of his student converts to democratic liberalism, deplored the lack of picture shows and heckled students with 130 pages a week —Associate Professor of History Miss Laurella Toft teaches history in the train- ing school, is a Peru grad. She likes poetry, collects old glassware, and does fancy work Lloyd Douglas is her favorite author Her ambi- tion is to visit foreign countries. [241

F cuiTy Professor j. W. Tyler. Director of Rural Educa- tion. tells country school teachers how to do it. His “varied experiences illustrate his witty lectures. He enjoys poetry, raises chickens and a garden. Miss Edna B. Wcarc lectures on nutrition, can explain how to use those tricky ration books. She sponsors Kappa Phi, attends home ec conventions, gardens and cooks for hobbies. —Assistant Professor of Homo Economics. Coach A. G Wheeler is teaching Phys Ed to the cadets, once wanted to be a doctor and won a Rhodes scholarship. He likes pie, traveling, bridge, and ' workin' with the boys. When his ship comes in he and Mrs. Wheeler arc going to South America.—Director of Athletics and Phys Ed. Mrs. A. G. Wheeler is now “assistant coach' in reality. She enjoyed building her new home, likes roses and fried chicken, hates snakes. She has a new cookbook and “I almost don t get meals ready on time for reading it.'' Mrs J M. Winter teaches nature study, likes roses—Dr. Winter has planted over 200 rose- bushes for her. She's a wonder at interior deco- rating Dr Winter says she's “superlative.' — Assistant Professor of Biology. Dr J M Winter. Head of Science Department, is in charge of the Naval ground school setup, teaches ground school navigation, stoop down to search for dust under cadets beds at part of his inspection He believes in discipline, work, and discrimination 12
