1-vs ' X , . c Breaking tradition, the Rodeo Queen was crowned for the first time as a part of a Rodeo act. The Queen, Inger Wold, and her attendants, Wanda Gearhart, Ianet Beard, Ruth Toepfer, Roberta Nash, Sandra Zavakos, Marthann t 2 Weinke, and Marilyn McMinn, not only . t, qw' K reigned over the 1952 Rodeo, but were also - the sweethearts of the political scene. L A 3 i Rodeo Acts Are Timely, Weird, and From modern politicians to ancient Azlecs, the 1952 Rodeo, November l3 and l4, directed by Iames Hawker, Hal Kesler, Iames Noble, faculty advisers, and Ruth Young, student di- rector, proved a success by netting 583739, the largest profit ever earned by any PHS Rodeo. The first scene, Wintergreen for President, was a political scene based on the Broadway stage show Of Thee I Sing. ln contrast to the fast tempo of the first act, Weather or Not, was slow and easy as loe Keel, commentator, talked about the weather. The music for this scene evolved around the everlasting topic of the weather. The Bride of Huitzilopochtlif' a story of an ancient Aztec wedding, with students impro- vising their own dancing, portrayed Mike Stru- ble as an Aztec god. When the curtain opened, the audience saw the inside of an Aztec temple, with Mike enthrcned in the middle of the stage, covered from head to foot with gold-leaf make- up. Grand Central Station, a scene represent- ing travelers from all parts of the world meet- ing in Grand Central Station, closed the show. Street cleaners' uniforms were donned by Iohn Steg- man and Kay Doerr, in style, as Brush Up Your Shakes- peare made a final sweep of the '52 Rodeo.
