This picture had 2L wonderful effect upon the min t ii the youth W that it appeared real. He became enamored with it, talked to it, tried e111- hrace it. and pined away in desire for it until death. Now Echo was l'evenged that Narcissus had been thus punished. A funeral pile was prepared on which to burn the body; and when the sorrowful nymphs went to hear the youth to his resting place they found in the spot Where he died, not his lifeless form. hut Eli beautiful white flower.
