We Sharpened Our Communication Skills Bernard. Nelson and James enjoy reading a selection from their English books. Aida wonders what it would be like living in the days of King Arthur Even though English class was a requirement, we enjoyed it at times. We eventually realized that it gave us an opportunity to express our creativity, to communicate with each other in a proper manner or even to act out a part in a play during class. Some of us read and discussed works by famous authors such as Shakespeare. Hemingway and Emily Dickenson. Others, who needed more practice in basic communication skills, were enrolled in compensatory, bilingual or ESL Classes. Acting out a dramatic exercise are Hinginio. Vicki and Bonme 21 John asks Chris and Susan what '‘eudaemonia” means

We Practiced Office Procedures Business skills play an important part in everyday life. Whether a business-oriented career or higher education was our goal, the skills we learned in our business classes would help us in the future. Instead of typing with one finger, we typed with all ten (in most cases). Instead of messy and illegible notes, we filled our notebooks with squiggly lines and symbols that made things easier to review and understand. Lillian counts the change as Ray packages the purchase for his customers. Betsy. Terese. Carmen and Maria try to show us where the “W” is on the keyboard. Linda learns how to select a filing operation from the word processor's menu. 20 Lillian demonstrates her typing technique.

We Painted And Made Music No more finger painting or banging on a toy drum. We were now involved with the real thing. Our art and music classes gave us the precious opportunity to express our individuality. Some of us even decided to persue careers in the arts. Just a walk past the PAHS bandroom or a peek inside one of the artrooms showed the popularity of music and art classes. Ligia. Nuno and Darleen are busily sketching the bones of the hand.
