The Class of Seventy-Four's brief sojourn within the security of the Halls of Ivy has terminated. About four years ago, a new crop of up-wrong-stairway goers were initiated into the battle of high school life. We gazed enviously at the upperclassmen and imitated their every move. With our newly made friends we discovered the feeling of watching our team win. Thus, we adjusted our lives to the many social and academic events surrounding us. By our second year we considered ourselves well prepared to handle the school's activities. We had representatives in most fields of athletics and in various school organizations. Many Sophomores made the Junior Varsity team that soon found itself in the Middlesex County Tournament. Our place in the school was firmly established and we were proud to be Sophomores. Unfortunately, the Halls of Ivy on State Street would no longer be our home. Those friendly, comforting hallways only echoed the memories of our years of developing into responsible upperclassmen. Not manv of us looked forward to this change, but we had to focus our thoughts on the future. As we entered the unpainted cinder-block building, not even our status as upperclassmen kept us from getting lost in those cold, unfamiliar halls. Like the Freshmen, we too had an Orientation Day to introduce us to the new school. After having our security upset for a while, we became determined Juniors with enthusiastic class leaders. Our Class Rings arrived early in our third year giving us an even greater feeling of superiority. Junior Class activities such as the Junior-Senior Class Play, the Junior Class Chinese Auction, and the Junior Prom kept us busy throughout the year. The entire PAHS Marching Band, made up mostly of Juniors, marched in Niagara Falls, Canada for the first time. Amboy High still held the reputation of having an excellent basketball team. More opportunities were open to us as upperclassmen and our participation in all fields of school activities grew. All through the year one thought stuck out in our minds, Juniors were the best! Our last year dawned and we reluctantly realized that our time for departure was drawing near. At our last Senior football game we had tears in our eyes and a whisper of the Alma Mater on our lips. College acceptances for many made the days go by even faster. As Seniors, we had mellowed and we started to look at life much more realistically. June approached bringing the Senior Class Trip, the Senior Prom, and finally Graduation Day. While we sat through the Graduation ceremony, much passed through our minds. Had we really made it? What did the world expect of us now that we would be on our own? These were only a few of the questions that we asked ourselves on that special day. But as we sat there thinking of all our past experiences and old friendships we had in Perth Amboy High School, we realized that we were just beginning to attain the goals and ultimate dreams we had for the future. Sophomore boys at play. Sophomores As opposed to the white-socked Freshman, the Sophomore has attained a great maturity in many things yet still lacks the finesse of the Junior. Being more acquainted with the school, hiding places and hangouts are at his immediate disposal. This adds up to a greater amount of overall disobedience. The Sophomore makes his understudy, the Freshman, his main victim, forgetting and often regretting his past experiences in his first year of high school. He is reaching the apogee of an underclassman because he is finally starting to nascent and so prepares himself for the upperclassmanship he will gain next year. Sophomore years are the middle and indecisive times of good cheer and they give evolving sensation of power to their holder. But the best moments are Sophs cheering for the Sophs. 1L RhJ£dL Liz gives a Panther yell. 91 92 93 Freshmen With due respect to the many seniors and juniors who will find refreshing and everlasting memories on the pages of this yearbook, it is still our obligation to present a special breed of student, Freshmen, without whom there would be complete chaos in our beloved school due to the lack of little punks to boss around. At first, everyone views Freshmen as strangers, travelers fresh out of the world of elementary school. A constant battle is waged between these strange little people. The Frosh, a strange subtitle given to these people, from the McGinnis School are forever combatting those from the Shull School, but on a friendly basis. Such strange habits are quite unusual in such a normal institution as ours! The stupendous roar of these “munchkins” during school activities causes amazement to fill the air. But, most strange of all, like the growth of a catipillar into a butterfly, these Freshmen grow up to be Juniors and Seniors. Special thanks must be given to Patricia Taros for her assistance with the Sports Section. We also would like to express our gratitude to Walter J. Bojsza and Raoul Rabiner for their assistance and support. Our years at Perth Amboy High School were years of changes. Changes in dress; in administration; in curriculum and most prominently our change in location to the new high school. But these were basically physical changes necessary to meet the commitments of passing years. There were also changes of growth and attitudes which occurred during this time. After graduation day our lives will change again. There will be new barriers, new areas of interest to explore and many new and unique experiences. But as you change and as you grow to fill the needs of the world around bu, a part of you will always be here in this book. Use this yearbook as a bridge between our past and future. There's a wide, challenging and hectic wprJd Waiting for you beyond these walls.
