Moreover, the four years of our life spent at Amboy High has helped us gain a better understanding of life around us. With this understanding, we will venture into the world, achieving our individual goals. With this in mind, the Seniors of Perth Amboy High School present the 1973 Halls of Ivy. 5 DEDICATION In our years at Perth Amboy High School, we have come into contact with many who have inspired us. The man to whom we dedicate our yearbook has done much for the students and for the school. It is largely due to this man that our new school is no longer a dream; it is now a reality. He has served as a teacher, vice principal, and principal, always giving his time and services in helping the students. We, the Class of 1973, with much gratitude dedicate the Halls of Ivy to Mr. Michael E. Stofega 7 Pedro Abreu Regina Acciani Steve Admire Irma Arocho Ronald Artis Time it was, And what a time it was. This day concludes four years of high school and I am engrossed with thoughts of the past. Somehow it's not the way I imagined graduation day. I thought I would say a few last goodbyes and take one more walk through the building. I did both those things today. But it's not that easy saying goodbye to a favorite teacher or to a friend who was there beside me to share all the joys and sorrows of high school. That walk was a kaleidoscope of faces and events of four years. The corridors and rooms were empty. Yet I saw teachers grinning and frowning; students up to their routine antics. Yes, I shall miss everybody and everything that was Perth Amboy High School. I cannot help wondering where all the time went. When I look back at my freshman year, it seems like six days ago, but when i think of all that has happened, it seems like six years. Time has a way of yielding to memory. For the present, I may consider today a conclusion. Tomorrow I shall regard today and the last four years as a stage of growth as an individual. We are the essence of this school. We are its children—living in every way and working in every style. Being ourselves. Becoming ourselves. And so we grow. M.P. Krysiak Carol A. Palmer Jose A. Pagan John Parkin 40 Diane M. At this time the class elections were held. Ray Petro was elected President, Jimmy Maskowitz-Vice-President, Marty Pyzik-Treasurer, and Dot Kalamaras— Secretary. Mr. Capezio was elected as the class advisor. In June, the members of the ring committee decided on the style of our class ring. All the class members had their ringfinger measured before they went on summer vacation. The rings were delivered in October, and the Class of 1973 became the first class to receive their rings so early in their Junior year. The raising of money for the class treasury occupied much of the Juniors' time during the year. The major fund-raising activity was the candy sale, with every class member participating. Other fund-raising activities included a Chinese auction and selling various items such as slogan buttons, flowers, soap powder, and refreshments at a dance. The class also co-sponsored the Senior-Junior class play, THE MAN OF LA MANCHA. Preparations for the Junior Prom began in January. Sitting in the Park was chosen as the theme and the blue orchid as the flower. The class colors of light blue and dark blue were also the prom colors. The Prom was held on May 19, 1972 in the high school gymnasium, after the decorating committee had spent many hours making it look like a beautiful park. A seven piece band, The Riots, provided the entertainment. Once the Prom was over, it was time to start planning for the Senior year. This meant the officers for the coming year had to be elected. Jimmy Maskowitz was chosen to be President, Dot Kalamaras-Vice-President, Charlie Migliaccio-Treasurer, and Elaine Nemeth-Secretary. Mrs. Arnone and Mr. Stratton were chosen as the new class advisors after Mr. Capezio decided to leave the school. The new school year provided many other changes also. Perth Amboy High School was moved to the new building on Eagle Ave. and Francis St. The Class of '73 would hold the distinction of being the first class to graduate from the new High School. The Senior Council also decided to change the class colors to royal blue and silver. The Senior year also consisted of many fund-raising activities. They sold candy, buttons, T-shirts, flowers and refreshments at home basketball games. The Senior Council sponsored a car wash, Chinese auction, turkey shoot, and Thanksgiving Dance. They also sponsored a bus for some away basketball games. The class again co-sponsored the Senior-Junior class play, which was Sound of Music. The Senior class trip was held on March 8 at Mount Airy Lodge in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The students had the opportunity to participate in the following outdoor activities during the day: skiing, horseback riding, and volleyball. The indoor activities which could be enjoyed during the day and after dinner included swimming, ice-skating, table tennis, table hockey, and pinball. The Senior Prom was held at the Edison Country Club on June 1, 1973. The theme was Stairway to Heaven. The house band provided the music for the evening. The four years the Class of 1973 spent at Perth Amboy High School (old and new) ended with the graduation ceremonies held at Waters Stadium. During these years, the class members were able to share many experiences and become acquainted with many people that will remain in their memories for a long time. For the past graduates, it reminds them of their great high school days. But for the Class of 73 Seniors, it brings melancholy feelings. Soon the Football season will conclude and graduation will be just around the corner. Kateina Mavrookas, Roland Jenkins, and Patrick Savoia Co-Chairmen of the Homecoming event, along with Mr. Mrs. Gus Zaharioudakis are thanked by the Senior Class for their long and generous work. Some called it a giant dog. But to the Class of 73 it will be remembered as their Senior Panther. 116 Over The Rainbow is the title of this year's Underclassmen float. Nice job 75 76 ! The Juniors put a lot of time and work into this year's Football float. Senior Class President James Maskowitz seems to really be enjoying himself. From the beginning it looked as though Amboy would come through with a winning season, knocking off its first two opponents, Edison and J. P. Stevens. The factor of downfall for the Panthers was the collapse of the fantastic passing game displayed by Bruce Zolnowski. His favorite receiver, Ray Petro, lead all Amboy scorers with four touchdowns. The season ended with a hard fought victory over arch-rival Carteret. The teams statistic leaders are as follows: Passing: Bruce Zolnowski, completing 35% of his passes. Rushing: Alan May, averaged 4 .2 yds. per carry. Receiving: Ray Petro, who caught 19 passes for an average of 15.2 yds. per catch. Punting: Harry Arvelo averaged 32.6 yds. per punt. This being the girls' first year as a team, they would only play Junior Varsity teams because they were not well experienced as a group and Varsity schedules were already made by other schools long before P.A.'s girls' varsity had its final organization. The girls include Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. Seniors were not eligible since they cannot play on J. V. teams. Although the girls had no victories, they received a great deal of practice, learning the tricks of the trade from their opponents. The seasons to come should be rather rewarding fori them. 152 Half-time worries. Sink it. sink it, hey you. hey Jenny f 12)! 153 Pre-game instructions from Coach Helen Strickarz. In order to participate in track, the girls did not have to know anything about the sport. They were conditioned for the team at the many practices held. Track is a sport consisting of many individual types. Some natural ability was necessary to categorize the girls in fielding, throwing, or running. Girls from any year in high school were eligible. Practices proved that the girls were very interested in the sport, and their interest and the weather conditions at practices should have the girls in shape for a very promising season.
