And from the bleachers there comes The hlare of lrumpets, the ruffle of drums, And loyal hearts are healing high. Hats Off! The Pirafes are passing by. Cheers flooded the stands as the Pirates came rushing out of the dressing room onto the P. H. S. Held, to play Crystal City in the initial game of the season. Our hopes were well rewarded, for we won the game with a score of 19 to 0. Touchdowns were made by P. Schamburg, L. Kaempfe, H. Schulte, and Lurk made one con- version. Our held was hardly cool from the Hrst victory, when Poplar Bluff arrived to try their luck, only to go down in defeat, when two touchdowns were made, by R. Schnurbufch, on a forty yard run, and a line plunge by Lurk. The final score read P. H. S. 13, P. B. H. S. 6: Our game with Charleston proved to be a thriller. The start of the game saw the Pirates employ a fifty-yard aerial bombardment for a tally. Charleston smashed back with fourteen points, and Perryville rooters were beginning to lose hope of a comeback. Four minutes to go and Lurk threw a touchdown pass to Schnur- busch. We were back in the game! Lurk kicked the extra point and the game ended with a tie - fourteen all. Chaffee was the scene of a mighty Pirate victory, for we left them badly beaten, by a score of 24 to 7. We scored in this manner: L. Sutterer a safety, Schnurbusch on a pass play, finding no receiver, crossed the goalg an- other pass from Schnurbusch to Schulte for a score, an interception by Lurk, who ran seventy- five yards for a tally, and an automatic safety. Lurk and Schnurbusch each converted once. Sikeston visited us to play a most decisive game, as neither team had been defeated. In the first few minutes we drove deep into Bull- dog territory, and scored on a pass from Lurk to L. Suttercr. Lurk made the score 7-0 by making the extra point. Sikeston, not to be done away with. so easily, came back in the :tcond half to score, but missed their extra point, much to the Pirates glee, The Bulldogs were still trying in the last few minutes of play, but due to the pirates excellent line, were unable to gain the needed point.
