We are tomorrow ' s past. John Milton In your 1961 Ranger we have attempted to flash back for you memoried glances of Perryton High School ' s past as well as the present. The bridge from the past through the present to the future is so short that very soon your pictures and our annual will be a part of that infinitely precious past. We present to you now the fruits of our labor with a sincere hope that this book will serve you in the years to come as a clear pictorial diary of your 1960-61 year at Per- ryton High School. THE EDITOR TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration Classes Favorites Organizations Sports Junior High Elementary B U 1 1 N L T D E 1 R N 1 G O R ■ ■■ii m HISHJrfli DEDICATION Our dedication is to a man whose strength of character and high standards of con- duct have won him the respect and admiration of all who know him. He alone has done much to lift the standards of our school, thus making it something of which we can each be proud. He has not, however, neglected to instill in us our own responsibility of keeping it a thing of pride. No matter where you see him, at a ball game, a school function, in the halls, or in his own office, he forever sets an example of dignity, fair- ness, discipline, and friendliness. It is for these reasons and because you, sir, stand for all that is upright and constructive, we dedicate this edition of the Ranger to you, our principal, Mr. George Zoller. eJl i JL. IL J . Ji fl. She is one of the busiest girls in high school, participating in F.T.A. N.H.S., F.H.A., the Spanish Club, band, and choir. Claudia is an excellent student as her fine scholastic average indicates. P.H.S. is the fine school it is today because of the talents and contri- butions of Claudia and students like her. Although this is Carol Voiles ' first year in PHS, her influence has already touched those who know and work with her. She was a fine asset to her former school and is now proving to be one in PHS. Carol is active in choir and N.H.S. and also has an excellent scholastic average. Carol ' s moving to Perry ton was certainly a gain for our school. Pat Malone is one of the best-all-around students in PHS. She excells in such activities as band and choir and participates in F.T.A. , N.H.S., Student Council, and the Spanish Club. With all her outside activities, Pat manages to maintain an outstanding scholastic average. Next year, PHS will surely miss the smiling face and superior leadership that Pat has exhibited during her four years in high school. JUNIOR WHO ' S WHO Johnny Leicht is an outstanding student in every way. He is the vice-president of both the Student Council and junior class. He was also chosen best citizen of his class. Besides being very active in athletics, Johnny has a good scholastic record. Ann Acker, a junior in Perryton High School, is active in basketball, F.T. A., N.H.S., and band. She has received such honors as the Freshman and Sophomore citizenship award and was selected F.F.A. Sweetheart. She has been elected to Who ' s Who the past three years. Ann ' s charming person- ality helps her to be well liked by everyone. Because of his happy smile and pleasing disposi- tion, Terry McWhorter is well-liked by everyone. He is active in all sports, N.H.S., and F.T. A. He is also president of the junior class and was elected to Who ' s Who for the past three years. With all these and his wonderfiil personality, he is popular with both teachers and students. SOPHOMORE WHO ' S WHO Joe Champion always has a warm greeting and pleasant smile for everyone. As a sophomore he participates in such sports as football, basketball, and track. Besides his outstanding athletic ability, Joe shows a great talent for music, singing forth with a strong bass voice in the A Cappella choir. Linda Campbell is a person with a nice thought for everyone. She is an asset to PHS because of her willingness to work. In her freshman year she was chosen class favorite and secretary of her class . This year she sings alto in the A Cappella choir and rep- resents her class in Student Council. Linda has made the honor roll each six weeks of her high school record. Charles Kelly is one of the most prominent and well-liked students in PHS. He is a member of the B squad football team, the Ranger Band, and the Student Council. Charles was also elected Best Cit- izen of his class, which proves that he is an outstand- ing person as well as an outstanding student. 65 BEST CITIZENS SENIOR anZENS Janie Hartson David Morris SOPHOMORE CITIZENS Paulette Schroeder Charles Kelly ' ' ■m]m J y i t R A I A T I 67 STUDENT COUNCIL As one of the most important organ- izations in P. EL SOMBRERO Meet that deadline I ! is the ever present cry in the journalism room, where a seemingly confused, but actually fairly efficient collection of assorted staff mem- bers struggle to beat the bi-weekly bugaboo of all newspapers. Amid the clatter of typewriter, the moans of frustrated copy editors, and the occasional cries of Quiet! from Mrs. Love, our newspaper always seems to come out bringing the latest news to all El Sombrero readers.
