Editing the ' 59 Ranger has been a privilege and great honor. I shall cherish it always. It brings back the hard work and hours spent to bring you an annual with which you can remember your school days. I wish to extend my gratitude and sincere thanks to the Trurman ' s for making the pictures, to Mr. Paul Ruth, our advisor, to Mr. Mize and the School Board for their support, to my assistant editor, Pat Haywood and the rest of the publications staff and to Janie Putman McLean, our artist, a heartfelt thank you for a difficult job, well done. Though I won ' t be vnth you in the coming years, my sincere thoughts will be with PHS in the past and the PHS of the future. SjL tz Y ' T iX . A i ,. ' Betty Mayhan Editor

NAEMO JAMES PETERSON 1915-1958 Men like James Pete Peterson are a rarity and it is fortunate that Perryton, and the teach- ing profession should be the recipient of his talents. All of us; students, teachers, and private citizens were influenced by the tall-man of the playing field and the classroom. Coach Pete never failed to have a kind v ord for each student as he hurried to the classroom or a comradely swat on the game -pants of an athlete being sent in to plug a gap during a crucial game. We will always remember Coach Pete as a fundamentalist who worked from the roots of a problem to a complete understanding of everyone involved. Coupled with his other talents was that friendly grin, Mississippi - flavored humor and a dedi- cated sense of responsibility to the students of Perryton High School. Although James Peterson is dead, his work with the young people of this community will be remembered as long as there is a Perryton High School. One can never forget the man who lived by his book of rules and expected those who worked for and with him to live by the book too. It is in the memory of Coach James Pete Peterson that the staff of the 1959 Ranger, forthe student body of all Perryton Schools, dedicate this Annual.
