ALLEN COUMTY PUBLIC LIBRAR THE 1975 BLACK AND GOLD Volume XII Perrysbiirg High School 350 E.S. Boinidiiry Street Perry sburg, Ohio 43551 To you Miss Elizabeth Munger, we dedicate the 1975 Black and Gold. Dear to the hearts of those who knew her and were taught by her. iss Elizabeth Munger. iVIiss Munger is retiring after 42 years in the teaching profession. She will be involved with her hobbies of birding, bridge and books and do some writing. She hopes to be involved as much as possible with people, places, entertaining, the out of doors and books. She was a charter sponsor of the Boosters ' Club (now called the Pep Club); also a charter sponsor of the FTA (now SAE), Future Teachers of America, with Alice Morgan Kittle. Lib planned and started the O.C. Treece Scholarship Fund in conjunction with Mr. Walter Hayes. Plays were given as one way to get funds in order to provide loans to high school students for schooling after high school. This fund is now in existence. The Bee Hive, recreational center for Perrysburg, started in Problems of America Democracy classes. The students were concerned about juvenile delinquency and wanted to do something about it. Committees were formed from classes. They visited organizations in town talking up the project. Rev. Mace, a Presbyterian minister, also worked with the group. The Bee Hive first met in the old Town Hall. Lib was the ideal teacher, the ideal teachers ' association member who w orked and was sincerely interested in her peers. She was very dedicated in her work and felt that the classes got better as time went on. There was never a time when a cross word or a show of malice was expressed by her toward her fellow teachers. She not only belonged to her association but got others teachers involved. She was a professional and wanted others to be professionals. She deserves a good retirement and at the same time, her drive and energy will be missed by her association and fellow teachers. Composed upon Westminster Bridge Earth has not anything to show more fair: Dull would he be of soul who could pass by A sight so touching in its majesty: This City now doth like a garment wear The beauty of the morning; silent, bare, Ships, towers, domes, theaters and temples lie Open unto the fields, and to the sky; All bright and glittering in the smokeless air. Never did sun more beautifully steep In his first splendor, valley, rock, or hill; Ne ' er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep! The river glideth at his own sweet will: Dear God! the very houses seem asleep; And all that mighty heart is lying still! -William Wordsworth And to you Walt, we also dedicate this 1973 Black and Gold. Walt Zieman with some of his momentos. No matter how you cut it, Walt ' s the best. TO WALT What can you say of Walt Zieman That ' s not been said before? For thirty-eight long years he did His job and much, much, more. He ' s done so many things for us Since we have been around That listing all the kindnesses Would cover lots of ground. Perhaps best known as bus driver. The best there ever was. He never had an accident And that is just because He cared so much for all the kids. And no one was more proud Than Walt, when bussing winning teams. Was part of that great crowd. Seventy-thousand miles he drove Without a bump or scratch To set a record that we ' re sure No one will ever match. He ' s seen more high school sports events Than anyone in town. That ' s just another glowing jewel In Walt ' s bright, shining crown. He never took time off from work. Not even a vacation. They finally said, You ' ve got to rest. Go get some recreation. To list the rest of all he ' s done Would surely take a while; So let ' s just say a few more things Walt ' s done (each with a smiIeK He ran the bu sses, fixed the pipes, Did the maintenance work. Carried mail to every school And not once did he shirk. He shuffled risers back and forth. Moved desks and chairs and junk. He found the time to cheer us When our spirits, low, had sunk. But what of Walt, the man, my friends. For this is how you measure The qualities he has in him That gave us so much pleasure. His friendliness, his helpfulness. His temper, always even. He is a man who speaks the truth, A man you can believe in. He did so many extra things We can not list them all, But through the years he always seemed To really have a ball. And so we bid farewell to you, Walt Zieman, our good friend. But rest assured our memories Of you shall never end. —By David IVIarkle, Pine Street School .Hi-! !•! } School Board Members (left to right)-Mrs. Jean Duston, Mr. Terry Emrick, Mr. Robert Shank, Mr. George Williams, and Mr. Ronald Hufford.
