Schramm, custodian and bus driver in the Perrysburg school system for thirty- three years. Mr. Schramm, born here in Perrysburg, has been ac- tive with the school and in various community activi- ties. At present he is a mem- ber of the Perrysburg post 1 of the American Legion, and is an energetic member of the Zoar Lutheran Church, Perrysburg. Among his many contri- butions to our entire com- munity, '-'Al , at the age of twenty-three, helped to 1 build the present high 1 school building. Since that time he has worked as a bus driver for twenty-eight years, and as a custodian for thirty-three years. l Serving in the Army during . , U , , During this time, 1917-1918, he served as a mechanic and as an interpreter. Also during this time Al met Mr. O. C. Treece in France. Mr. Treece later became principal of P.H.S. After returning from Europe, Al began his career here at the high school. Having now been married for forty-one yea rs, Al is the father of six children, five graduates of P.H.S., and the grandfather to fourteen children. We sincerely hope that Mr. Schramm has enjoyed his relationship with us, the members of the Sr. Class, and that his services will never be overlooked or forgotten in forthcoming years. 4 DMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOL ROBERT PIERSON HIGH SCH00l PRINCIPAL REX MURPHY JUNIOR HIGH PRINCIPAL R MARTIN MEUSER PUPIL PERSONNEL DONALD CANFIELD ROBERT CRAGO + ENGLISH DEPARTMENT Ackerman, Betty Barthold, Betty lndermaur, Barbara English ll 8th grade English, English l 8th grade English, Speech Munger, Elizabeth Munger, George Murdock, Harriett English ll, English IV English Ill 7th grade English, Developmental Reading Nowak, Jerry Snyder, Elinor Zender, Bryce 8lh grade English, English l, 7lh Grade English English ll, Journqligml Assistant Football Coach, American History Winter lnlramurals SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT Casey, Sheila Chrisfman, Fern Donaldson, John 7th grade Social Studies 8th grade Social Studies 7th and 8th grade Social Studies Head Football Coach 'rs- IW McHugh, Dolores Seibert, Richard Wolfe, Ed American History W0I'ld HiSl0l'Y, Civics Civics, Athletic Director, Head Basketball Coach MATH-SCIENCE DEPARTMENT . f ,,. ,fn I 7, , lv V1.1-.ff 1? xl ' ,I , NWT 1 ,Q ffffli 41:1 'al ' ,imlwv Qi fy 1 I N.,-N ig! , .1 '96 4 is I gh W 1 'VX 'I 5 4 K f 7 f 7 , 1 7 ,Q 1 1 2 1 7' mwum s .V fl-, -'H -,V . - Q' f 1'-'Mm jf if S Q wh- flxlf ' ,. Pres., Mary Sutter, Sec., Mary Burkhart, Tres., Jane Walter THE SENIOR CLASS We, the Senior Class of 1962, are now in the process of changing from high school students in our early teens, to college students and responsible citizens in our late teens and early twenties. We have weathered the four years that you, the under- classmen, must face and we have all benefited. We are better informed, more mature, and more willing to accept the responsibilities of our later lives. Some of us have spent all of our school life here in the Perrysburg system, while others have ioined us during this time, but whether we are natives or new- comers, we will all graduate from P.H.S., and we will always be branded as Perrysburg products. Led over the years in our student government program by B. Austin, T. Sanders, G. Hurst, A. Hoff- man, 5. Walker, J. Simmons, J. Caswell, S. Aartuhn, K. Ankenbrant, J. Cummings and the above pic- tured officers, we have contributed to, and engaged in many activities and organizations. Not to be forgotten are those members of the faculty that have served as our sponsors. Mr. Richard Seibert and Miss Lucile Ruthinger have aided us through all of our four years, Mr. Hance Rogers for three, Mrs. Aretha Alexander, Mrs. Ann McCleary and Mr. Jon Vickery for one year apiece. We hope that you, the future graduates, will recognize the values of these years, and that you will strive to ex- ceed our efforts in developing our school. For the first time this season we were scored upon as Maumee's fullback went tive yards for a touch- down. Tony Snyder and Jim Evans made the Perrys- burg touchdowns but they weren't enough. Gary Simmons, Maumee's Senior tackle, booted a 23 yard field goal in the closing 53 seconds to over- come the Jackets 16-14. With this loss Maumee gained the Ding-Dong Bell. Playing Dayton for the first time, the Jackets were unreceptive hosts as they overwhelmed the Bisons 25-6. Carl Spitler and Tom Sanders tallied all the Jackets points with Spitler scoring three times and Sanders once. The Generals big line held off the Jackets until early in the second quarter when Jim Evans scampered 85 yards for the game's first points. The point after touchdown was successful and the Jackets led 7-O. However, the Generals were not to be denied as they marched for a score. The point after touchdown failed and the score remained 7-6. During the second and third quarters, neither team scored until halfback Tom Sanders rambled off a 60 yard iaunt that set up the final score. The Jackets showed everyone that Rossford wasn't the best team in the league when they swamped the Bulldogs 28-8. Rossford gave the Jackets little trouble as we chalked our 6th victory. Along with the rest of the Jacket's front forces, end Jerry Clinger did an outstanding iob. He scored two touchdowns. Carl Spitler and Don Shadow Scha- fer also aided in upending the undefeated team, as they both scored touchdowns. Tom Sanders was leading ground gainer with over lOO yards. Tom Sanders had a beautiful punt return touchdown called back because of a Jacket penalty. Perrysburg beat Genoa oddly but surely in a great contest at the Comets' home field. Tom Sanders' opening 85 yard kick off return for Perrysburg and Wayne Shimming's end sweep for Genoa were the. game's only scores until the final quarter. Then, with 15 seconds remaining, quarterback Jimbo Leyland kicked a devastating 23 yard field goal to break the game wide open and to slam the door on Genoa's championship dreams. The night was sloppy and so were the Jackets for two full quarters. How- ever, the second half was a different story, as Tom Sanders, Jerry Clinger, cmd Joe Cleary scored touchdowns. Tom also scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a 35 yard run. This victory made us the undisputed NLL champs for 1961. Summing up the l96l football season we state this phrase, a real pleasure. The Jackets lost but one game by a mere total of 2 points. Some of the strong points were the fine line play, the backs' ex- cellent running, and the coaching of Jack Donald- son and his assistants. Clinger hauls in six points. 4 The line up. Perrysburg 45-Anthony Wayne 57 Perrysburg kept up a long tradition as the 1961- 1962 Yellow Jackets dropped the season opener to A. W. on the victor's floor. For the first 3 quarters the game was fairly close, but due to some mental and physical mistakes the Generals won out in the final stanza. Bill Austin and Bill Nesbit led the Yellow Jackets with 15 points apiece Perrysburg 75-Bowling Green 70 Spearheaded by a 27 point performance by Jim Leyland and a 22 point splurge by Bill Austin the Yellow Jackets beat a red hot Bowling Green club. The game went into an over time where the Jackets Managers: Kenny Barrett, Lynn Kirkby, George Spencer 6 made six points to 1 for Bowling Green. The fine floor game by Tom Sanders and Gary Bowers along with the shooting of Leyland and Austin was very impressive. Perrysburg 46-Rossford 50 Again the Yellow Jackets fell as they lost a rugged 46-50 game to the Bulldogs from Rossford. Jim Leyland and Bill Nesbit led an improving squad with 16 and 19 points respectively. Perrysburg 76-Genoa 50 With their first league game of the year the Yellow Jackets left no doubt in the minds of the public that they were a championship team. At Genoa, they smothered the Comets 76-50. Combining fine de- fense and a geared-up offense, led by Bill Nesbit's 30 pt. performance, they easily won the game and moved into the upper bracket of the league stand- ings. Perrysburg 63-Lake 38 The Yellow Jackets took advantage of an inexper- ienced Lake team, and they evened their record at 2-2. The fast break, considered one of the finest plays in basketball, helped the Jackets considerably. Gary Bowers and Bill Nesbit would rebound and throw the ball to one of the smaller men. From there on in, Bill Austin, Tom Sanders and Jim Leyland would carry the mail. Bill Nesbit once again led the scoring with 16 points followed by Bill Austin with 13. .aIi:l BILL AUSTIN BILL NESBIT All-N.L.L. Left to right: Jim Leyland, Pat Fields, Gary Bowers, Jack Fox, Bill Nesbit, Bill Austin, Tom Sanders. Perrysburg 5 5-Eastwood 53 After easily beating tive straight opponents, the Jackets ran into some Trouble when they met a pesky Eastwood club. This game might have gone either way had it not been for the desire of the taller Jackets. Bill Nesbit led all scorers with I8 points before fouling out late in the game. Perrysburg 63-Rogers 46 The Yellow Jackets added to their winning streak by downing the Rogers Rams 63 to 46. The Rams gave the fired up Jackets little trouble after the opening seconds. Austin and Nesbit led the Jacket scoring with I6 apiece. Bowers and Leyland fol- lowed with Il and IO respectively. GARY BOWERS DICK THOMAS and AL RAVA. JIM LEYLAND TOM SANDERS 7 8 JIM RYDER JACK FOX JIM McCLAlN Perrysburg 63-Maumee 36 Led by Bill Nesbit's 29 points, the Yellow Jackets easily handled their bitter rival Maumee in a Northern Lakes League contest. The Panthers iust couldn't stop the tremendous shooting of Nesbit. There was one thing wrong with this game and that was the loss of starting forward Bill Austin. Bill iniured his knee early in the game and never returned. Otherwise it was a very successful eve- ning for the Jackets. Perrysburg 49-Eastwood 46 In a thrilling double overtime the Yellow Jackets turned back a pesky Eastwood team. Eastwood played a deliberate game which was surely not a spectator's game. With determination being the main factor, the Jackets pulled out with some accurate shooting in the second' overtime. Bill Austin and Bill Nesbit paced the scoring with l5 points each. Perrysburg 51-Elmwood 62 With the environment of noisy 'farmers hampering them the iackets tell to Elm- wood atter a shaky start. Ace scorer Bill Nesbit was removed from the game after committing five personal fouls. The Jackets couldn't keep up with the taller Royals after Bill was removed from the line up. Leyland scares Mazey out of two. Bowers out iumps Wiemkin to start the game. Fields shoots over Mazey for two. Players boost Wolfe to shoulders after successful campaign. - Perrysburg 55-Ottawa Hills 46 Perrysburg used its fast break to full advantage and rolled past Ottawa Hills in a non league game. The Jackets were too much for the Green Arrows. Pat Fields had 12, Jim Leyland ll, and Gary Bowers lO in helping the team to another victory. Perrysburg 53-Port Clinton 46 Pat Fields led Perrysburg to an exciting victory as he scored l8 points. Fields came through 'for the iniured Bill Austin. It was a close game all the way but depth payed off in the end. Perrysburg 63-Sylvania 47 Perrysburg handled another big school easily, when they gained a 63 to 47 victory over the Sylvania Wildcats. Balanced scoring was the major asset in this victory. Perrysburg 38-Rossford 63 With the flu and other iniuries the Jackets were no match for the inspired Bulldogs. Rossford took full advantage of a shakey second quarter which en- abled them to coast on to victory.
