Roles Reverse At Dance Traditionally, it happened once every year. The roles were reversed and the female of the species dug into her piggy bank and splurged on a favorite member of the male species. How long would this go on? Great traditions die hard. Once again, PM ' s Varsity Club sponsored the Turnabout dance. Held on February 1, 1980, the dance offered on opportunity for girls to escape the long hours of waiting for that special guy to call. Most couples started the evening off with dinner at a nice restaurant and then went to the dance. Music was provided by Autumn Heat. Still, other couples made plans for activities besides the dance. Those who chose not to attend the dance took advantage of a vari- ety of traditional dating activities. In Perry ' s short history, many traditions had been started; many of them had died sudden- ly and some had endured for years. The tradi- tion of Turnabout was one that had endured. Perhaps in years to come, with the strengthen- ing of the women ' s movement, the observa- tion of this tradition would not be limited to only one designated day, but to any day of the year. Only time would tell. In the ' 80 ' s that one day each year was set aside by the Varsity Club in honor of the event. The story was still the same. The ladies enjoyed their evening of role playing and then dreamed of the following year when history, following tradition, would repeat itself. Providing musical entertainment at tlie dance is tlie band Autumn Heat. Couples watch the dancing before trying a little disco themselves. 106 TurnoDout DarK;e 1
