A win without good sportsmanship is an empty honor. The Perry Township High School program has held the same as a challenge to right thinking individuals. Our coach Mr. Davies is a gentleman in whom all our boys are able to place confidence. It is the hope of the annual staff that in our sports program we will be able to continue with a type of Sports ideal which will be an honor to Perry Township High School. Katrinak The caliber of the opponents early in the year brought the squad down to mid- season without a victory, but after getting p?lSt Point Marion, Rostravcr, Vernon, Masontown, and Scottdale, the boys proved their ability by winning three of the last four games. The opponents mentioned above lost a total of only seven games during thc entire season. The record of this year's squad was the best sinee football was resumed at Perry Township High School in 1940. With many of the veterans returning next year, hopes are high for an even better season in 1948. The loss of Ralph Thorpe, Ralph Baluch, and Marion Giocondi meant that the basketball team had to be built around Dwight Lynch and George Eckenroad, the two returning regulars. Paul McKeever and John Rebovich had seen some action during the 1946-47 campaign, but the other member of this year's starting team, Elmer Toth, had very little previous experience. The team looked very promising during the early part of the season, but on too many occasions, due probably to lack of experience, after gaining a comfortable margin during the first three quarters the game was lost in the last few minutes of play. Behind the pitching of Ralph Thorpe the baseball team finished the season in a tie with Iiast Pike Run for the championship of W. P. I. A. I.. Section XX. The playoff game of Charleroi was somewhat of a disappointment the final score being eight to three in East Pike's favor, but some of the disappointment was forgotten in the satisfaction of defeating Uniontown High School in the Second round of the Ifayette County tournament. Thorpe, Gioeondi, Sassi, and Thomas are lost to the squad this year hut should the team get away to a good start, and if the pitching is reasonably good the cham- pionship of the XV. P. I. A.
