The second year classmen always realize that the world's future rests upon them. It is the class that needs no adviceg-in fact they could give the teachers a few ideas, if the teachers were vulnerable. The Sophomore has often been classed among the seven wonders of the world. This is a wrong classification, for, in fact, he is the wonder of the world. Do not think that this class is an absolute failure, because it must be re- membered that they are only Freshmen one year old, and we cannot expect much of Freshmen with only one year's experience. 1947 lfRliSHMliN ww . .5 7' . PETOSEAN Cheerleaders llelen Hafy Isabelle Dziedzicki Patty Behanna Garnier jones Students and friends! We, the seniors, wish to remind you that our high school is starting a new era in athletics. While in school, we have gladly accepted and welcomed this new growth. Our school is growing rapidly with its plans and in its idealism. Several ears back the onl s ort our school uarticivated in was basketball, but as other svorts frew in Q y Q A Y P i i i s p popularity, P. nl. H. 5. decided to add the two other popular sports, football and baseball, to her athletic pro g ram. As you know, it taltes time and money to successfully inaugurate a new sport, yet we have reached the point where we believe we will soon take our rightful place among the athletic leaders of the county. The future Commodore Field, the KI. Buell Snyder War Memorial Qfootball-baseballj Stadium, is well on its way toward a long life of usefulness. The field has been leveled and graded and the grass is coming along beau- tifully. We seniors now wish to thank the Athletic Council, the Lion's Club, and the townspeople for their splendid co-operation in getting this project under way. We, as future alumni, would like to take this opportunity to wish Mr. Davies, the new coach, all the success in the world. May his future teams do great things under the banner of our Alma Mater, P. Football In the last six fyears football has become as much a part of Perry High as any of the other sports. Although the teams have not won many games over this period of years, football season is still greeted with great enthusiasm. Many fine individual play- ers have been turned out and we feel sure that soon Perry will produce some winning teams. Back in 1941 the senior class of that year asked if they could have a football team, as Perry had abandoned football several years previously. Mr. Nathaniel Davis, Nat, as he is affectionately called, agreed to coach the boys if they could get permission to field a team. With that permission given, football was once more on its way in Perry High. To the year 1946, Mr. Davis coached the teams, his greatest success coming in the fall of 1945 when his team won four and lost five. This was Mr. Davis's last year as coach. The season of 46-47 brought Mr. Gwilym Davies as Skipper of the Admirals and though the team's record doesn't show it, Mr. Davies has done a fine job in his work. He had a fine Freshmen team and Freshmen are usually a new coach's future. His varsity was greatly hampered by the loss of five of his first string men to the Army. Perry should have a fine football future ahead. We are confident that Mr. Davies will be successful in his work and he can be sure he has our best wishes for future success. 1947 PETOSEAN Ei' 4 PETOSEAN Basketball The most loved of all the high school sports is basketball. It has been a part of the school from the beginning. It is as much a part of Perryopolis as the monument in the middle of town. It has been endeared in the hearts of the people through years of crack teams and trophy winners. In short, basketball is THE sport of school. Win or lose the teams always have a large following. Although, for the past few years, the teams have not won championships, that has not been because they were not good teams but because they just failed to click for some unknown reason. Potentially the teams have been one of the biggest threats in the county. This year under the direction of Mr. Davies the team is progressing nicely. For the first time in several years, the team has a chance to take the section. The first half of the league schedule is over and we are in second place at this writing. Mr. Davies is doing a fine job with the team as did his predecessor, Mr. Davis. This year we have Ralph Baluch, Ralph Thorpe, George Eckenroad, and Dwight Lynch returning from last year's varsity. Thorpe is one of the high scorers of the county. The teamwork is very good and the team is really a credit to the school. The usual starting lineup has Baluch and Eckenroad at the forwards, Thorpe at center, and Lynch and Giocondi at the guard positions. The other five on the first ten are: McKeever and Rebovich at forwards, Thomas at center, and Rolison and Mazzocco at the guards. These five have done some finf work as alternates.
