Profile Of A Student's Day If one wished to explain the lifestyle of a typical Perry High School student to E. I, what type of lifestyle would one portray? Would one’s version of this typical student participate in athletics or report to work after school? Would he or she follow a college prep, business or vocational curriculum? Any of the above students could be enrolled at Perry High School. In fact, there is no “typical Perry High student rather each of the five hundred students is unique in his or her own way. While some may awake alert and ready to start their day, others are groggy and may never fully awake until school ends. A few are bright and studious. Others sole function in school is to occupy space. Some report to work after school; others take to the football field or other athletic facilities to practice for the week’s big sporting event, where they will display the skills of Perry High atheletes. After a long, hard day at work, at school, or on the playing field, Perry High Students return home. Once home the students prepare for the nights festivities, watch television or study. Despite all their differences, these students do at least have one thing in common: their unending energy of youth. Senior Cjndtds 5 1 Semors 8 Smile! These elements were responsible for having the postponement of activities until halftime. At the scheduled time for homecoming the weather began to turn awful with severe lighting, hail, and ram laced with sleet. It was decided therefore, that all activities would be held off until halftime. By the time halftime came the skies cleared and the attendants were able to be escorted onto the windswept field for introductions. A record number of attendants were represented this year at homecoming. This year the student body decided to add the three foreign exchange students as honorary attendants. This made a total of eleven attendants. Caroline Duffy was crowned Queen by last year's queen, Linda Flacke, before a packed and very cold crowd. Festivities continued all through the game and after the 496 win against Ledgemont. Saturday night the band Heartbreaker provided the beat to this year's theme of Jungleland , which brought out the beast in many who attended. Homecoming 1982 will be remembered as the year of the halftime homecoming in which waders were the fashion for the night. That week was one that no one will forget; the hot sun, the work, the hot sun, the work, etc. Well, it all paid off as we marched onto the field at the Madison vs Perry game amid cheers and fireworks. The new uniforms helped the band shine even more. They participated in the alumni football game, marching band festival, and got invited to play for Cleveland Force in April. In November the band gave a marching band concert in the gym, playing Celebration, Centerfold, Mirada, PacMan, and others. Group Shot: 1st row: Pernse Mulkey. Lisa Courtwright. Tina Ohm. They beat two AAA schools, including the NEC champions in the Lake County Classic. They also placed third in the Perry Invitational. Their fourth place finish in the sectionals qualified them for the first time as a team to the AA Districts in Akron. The two biggest accomplishments of the team were the second consecutive G.R.C. championship and their league unbeaten duals to 17-0. Next season the team hopes to improve their overall record and advance farther into post season play. They won the 2nd Lake County Schools Classic by beating Kirttand and Riverside. They were also the winners of the G.R.C. for the seventh consecutive year with a record of 9-1. Their season ended abruptly with a loss to Orange in the first round of sectionals. Next season will be one of rebuilding. The team will lose six seniors including the top three award winners. Four varsity girls will be back next season of which only one was a starter. The J. V. squad gives hope to next year's varsity squad. They did as well as they did because everyone markedly improved from last year. The team achieved two outstanding achievements this season. The first was the league championship and the second was a trimatch victory over arch-rivals Pymatummg Valley and Geneva. First on the golf team's list of next year's goals is another league championship. Second is advancement as a team to reach district play. Both goals are well within reach for next year's team. The successful season did not come easy. The Pirates, led by fine senior leadership and the willingness to work for success, gained the G.R.C. Championship, finished first in the regional press small school poll, and ranked fifth in the computer polls. The entire squad of 36 had a great team attitude which was the key ingredient needed to win the G.R.C. Championship and enjoy a great season. With the loss of such a fine group of seniors, the main goal for next year’s season is to rebuild the team with a new offensive tine. Many of the positions will be filled from an undefeated J. CHEERLEADERS After struggling through two practices weekly, the Pirate cheerleaders received two blue ribbons (superiorrating) and two red ribbons (excellent rating) at the Baldwin Wallace cheerleading camp. The girls brought home their winning spirit and spread it throughout the school. They held pep rallies which included skits, cheers, and class shouting competitions. (Of course, the seniors always won!) Spirits were also raised by the bonfire in honor of the Madison game. Programs and buttons were sold by the cheerleaders to raise money. They also held car washes. Most of the money went towards new varsity uniforms. The cheerleaders worked hard at their Ob at keeping the PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) in all sport dwellers.
