1965 Zreasure Chest CO-EDITORS Sharon Fries Carmen Zampini Volume XXVII Perry High School Perry, Ohio foreword Life is a thing of nought, the year s alloted to us pass away in rapid flight, of which every one speaks, and no one thinks, except when the end is nearly reached, and one turns round to look at the way by which one came--one stands there doubting whether one's life has been a dream or a reality. PETRARCH Contents • faulty Mi student My • Sports • School Cife • Seniors and Honors faculty and Student Body j lma Mater Perry for you we’ll work and fight, We'll honor your name: Perry for you we'll claim the right, To spread far your fame. Courage and loyalty, Qualities dear to all, So Perry, our Alma Mater, To us you will reign o'er all. 5 To Mr. Kochera from the Senior Class: His humor and wit makes learning enjoyable. Although likeably lively, he takes government, politics, and education seriously and always demands an opinion from his students on political matters. A staunch Democrat, he believes that it is not the Republicans but the fencesitting independents who should be outlawed. He never lets us forget that we are young adults whose duty it is to take an active part and interest in our nation's affairs. Those of us in his classes were greatly influenced by his teaching, whether we agreed with him or not, and will never forget him. Thank-You, MR. K. ! ! Dedication Cyril Kochera School Hoard Zhe Administration ALVIN W. ELLIOTT Executive Head Our local superintendent has continuously devoted his time to the betterment of our school system. Always taking his position seriously, our diligent executive head sets a fine example among educational administrators. robert McCullough Principal He adapted quickly to the new school and did a fine job of organization tnroughout his first year. He is greatly respected for his fine athletic and academic achievements at Ohio State University and we wish him continued success. 7 EDWARD DREWS Social Studies CYRIL KOCHERA Social Studies VIRGIE GRIMM English ROY KUHL Commercial ETHEL HIGGINS Social Studies DENNIS LAURIE Mathematics FLORENCE LOGAN Social Studies EDWARD PALMER Social Studies VAUGHN REESE English ROBERT ROOT Science DENNIS ROSE Mathematics 8 faculty JAMES MACDONALD Drivers Education BETTY SMITH Home Economics CLAIRE CROSBY English LUCILLE MACKEY Physical Education JOSEPH TATAR Industrial Arts DONNA HOKKANEN Commercial STEPHEN MALLICK Science ROSEMARIE TAYLOR English WILLIAM CUSTER Music EUGENE KOBUS Language EDNA MYNDERSE English WILLIAM WALKER Physical Education 9 CHARLES P. Th winning team was composed of Seniors Bill Voige, the team’s cap tain, and Sallv Dugan, and Junior Tom Lipps. These three, together with their alternates Carmen Zampini, Santo Padula, and Sharon Fries, all Seniors, and faculty advisor Mr. Charles Cooper, traveled to the studios of WEWS-TV (Channel 5) in Cleveland on Monday evening, November 16 for the taping of the program. There the three competing teams received final instructions and suggestions and went through a brief rehearsal of the opening of the program as WEWS crewmen readied the set and made final technical adjustments for the recording of the program. A game of “It’s Academic consists of three rounds of questions and a grab bag” session. In the first two rounds each team is given one or one and one-half minutes to answer up to ten questions each ot which, if answered correctly, is worth ten points. In the third round, the teams are again given a certain amount of time during which up to ten questions may be answered; however, in this round, the teams may double” the point-value of each question. This process of “doubling” gives each correctly answered question a value of twenty points. The grab bag” portion of the ;ame comes after the third round. volume sets, Gateway to the Grea Books. All during the thirty-minut game, the teams were cheered o: by an enthusiastic audience com posed of interested students an adults who had tickets to the pro gram. Also among the spectator was an unexpected guest. WEVV newsman Tom Field. Mr. Fiel stood at the rear of the studio al through the game and showed great deal of interest in the pro ceedlngs. As well as the six team mem bers and alternates, several othe of our students w-ere involved i the program. Junior Ron Rich mond assisted Mr. Cooper in re hearsing the team during th weeks between the audition am the taking. All the action and pageantry bring back wonderful memories to those who return Kay Brewster and reunite with friends to Senior reminisce. Yes, this highlight in the school year never allows those who come home to grow old in thought. Cleyde Monteiro, our American Field Service Student, is from Porte Alegre, Brazil. This year she has been the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dugan. Cleyde1 s beautiful Art work has graced the school bulletin boards and art exhibits; her lovely smile and charming English brightened the senior classes; and the lilt of her guitar will echo in our memories a long, long time. Because of her all-too short year here, Brazil will always seem like a sister country to everyone in Perry High School. Dear Cleyde--please don't forget us and come back to your American home as soon as you can. Cleyde was maid of honor for the annual homecoming festivities and was also on the Prom Court. 97 National Mon Society SECOND YEAR MEMBERS: Santo Padula, Sally Dugan, Dave Brewster, Ruth Advey, Bob Govan, Bill Voige, Connie Dugan, Carmen Zampini, Sharon Fries.
