Because of Perryis increased enrollment, some applicants for membership had to be turned down. Members of the club Worked hard in mastering their routines and march steps. In Iune three majorettes were chosen to take the place of those graduating. They were chosen through 'ctry outsv in which each girl demon- strated her ability at marching and twirling. The Band entertains at half-time during the Oliver-Pcrry game and helps to brighton an otherwise dismal occasion. fA8? QVLAUQVLQC! fA8 g6Ll4fL8f5 With cymbals crashing and trumpets blar- ing, Perry,s Band marched out on the field during half time. At the sight of the blue and white uniforms of the bandsmen, spectators came to expect lively entertainment between halves at the football games. Every Monday morning the Band met with Mr. Ambrits to rehearse music and marching routines for their many and various performances. Three of Perry's bandsmen qualified for All City Band this year, they were Franz Schon, first trombone, Richard Heastings, trumpet, and Leslie Shumann, flute. They played in the Civic Arena on February 12, 1963, for the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Al Mascari, Sam Turner, and Iohn F roehlich exercised drumming skill at the pep rallies that preceded the games. One of the seniors who will be missed by the Band was Ricky Mattern, Who had led the trumpet sec- tion for three years. Many of the graduating seniors will be replaced by hopeful new Band members. 2:2 Carey Fitzpatrick, Perry,s left guard, talks with the umpire and Oliver boys before the bitterly fought Perry- Oliver game! v I
