Five members were added to our regular faculty at Perry. Mrs. Went- zel became the Fifth grade teacher. Mr. Stetzler took over the Sixth grade. Mr. Kershner took over the math department for the first half of the year until he was called into the service, Mr. Wolff then fin ished the year as the math teacher. The new commercial teacher and coach of J. V. Basketball is Mr. Plafcan. Mr. Drigan teaches history and coaches Varsity Basketball. . Smith continued teaching science and Mrs. Smith continued her work as the debating coach librarian, and English instructor. M . Barnhart retained his posit on as agriculture instructor and faculty adivisor for the P. F. A. Miss Winch retained her position as language teachen Mrs. Zerr taught physical education, health, and home economics. . Talnack has kept his position as music instructor. Front row: Florence Hartman, Grace Kline, Mabel Heffner, and CLASS NIGHT IVIEIVIUI RS P 61955 Cr f 6, WI L L Qi? ass Lsfory The door of this, our school, is swung open in welcome to you The time has come when we,the class of '55, are granted the prlv ilege of retracing our steps from first grade to the present Twelve years ago, in September, l9M3, a group of forty eager young six year olds entered the doors of Perry Township School for the first time We met the next few days with our chin p and before we knew it we were getting accustomed to their new an strange ways Here we learned our three R's Reading' 'Ritin , and 'Rithmetic with our eyes ever on the clocks look ng for e cess During these, our grade school days we visited many in dustries and took part in many of the act vities which made our elementary school days attractive Before we knew it we moved across the street to start our new days in Junior High School During these days we moved from room to room and loved our new classes of shop and physical education Here again, we visited the Berks County Museum, and took active parts in assembly programs and attending social functions of the High School Student men, High School Students a last We immediately tackled our new subjects of Latin and Algebra with our eyes ever open for new ideas and adventure We started our High School Days with forty three members Paul L Klee, Stephen J Leibensperger, Gerald Wanner,Thomas Adam, Jack Wertz and Merlin Peters represented the class by participating in spor s Christine Moyer was a cheer leader We started our Sophmore year with thirty six members Mr Smith helped us get more acquainted with our High School A new course, the Commercial Course, was offered to us and fourteen members took typing and shorthand with much enthusiasm Feb ruary we sponsored the annual roller skating party which was well attended The girls in the Glee Club helped to present the nual oppretta Paul L Klee helped the varsity basketball team on to victory, with Christine Moyer as a cheerleader The other boys did a great job on the Junior Varsity Basketball team with Ilabelle Wentzel and Dorothy Dodson as cheerleaders We started our second last year at Perry with even more en thusiasm On November lk, 1953 We presented the annual Junior Class play entitled 'Your Only foung 0nce,' which proved to be a success under the direction of Mr Yarr We also chose class colors, royal blue and white and purchased our class Jackets and class rings. Ilabelle Wentzel and Karroll Kershner represented us in debating. Again the boys and girls did a fine job represen- ting us in sports. On May 7, 195k a new event was sponsored Perr , The May Day Porgran. Ilabelle wentzel, Dorothy Dodson, Mabe Heffner and Christine Moyer were elected to the court. On May , 195k we held the annual May Day Dance which proved to be a great success.
