XSS' HISTUI X The time of the year has come when we,the class of '52,are proud to relate to you the past four years of our school life and how it pro- gressed, for now the time has come for us to enter a world that offers us abundant opportunities. We started our Freshmen year on September 7,l948, with forty-four pupi1s.Th1s was a big year for us, especially with, our new subgectsg algebra,Latin, and science. We were greeted that year by these teachers, Mr. Irvin Smith, Mrs. Rebecca Smith, Miss Alice Albright, Mr. Harold Klahr,Mr. Earl Fox,Miss Estella Cressman,Mrs. Sara Weist,Mr. John Tal- nack, and Miss Marian Lower under the principalship of Mr.Lamm, who pre- pared us for the years ahead. Nine months soon passed and in May of 1949 we left our Freshmen year with forty-seven pupils of which forty- five were promoted. ' June,July, and August soon passed and then came September of'49 when you soon saw children parading off to school again. Among this parade was the class of'52. We retained all our teachers of our Freshmen year except Miss Cressman, who was replaced by Miss Phyllis Leiby, who later in the same year was replaced by Mr. Harry Franz, and Mr.Pau1 Barnhart, the new a riculture teacher. A few members of the class were in the operettanghe Gypsy Troubadouruunder the direction of Mr. John Talnack. Shirley Einsel, Kathryn Rentschler, Jean Hess, and Rosslyn Adam repre- sented our class in cheerleading, while still others participated in sports. Thus passed another pleasant year at Perry. September 5,l95O, and again our group journeyed back to Perry with thirty-two members as Juniors. We were greeted by two new tea- chers, Mrs. Renabella Otten and Miss Ruth Shupp. During the year we chose our class colors which are maroon and gray, and also received our class jackets, hats, and rings. On November the eighteenth we presented our Junior Class Play ent1t1edNJust One Big Happy Familynunder the su- pervision of Mr. Lamm. Also in November, the class went to Kutztbwn to see Shakespeare's production ofUHamletU. Members of the class partici- pated in the operettanUp in the Airu on April l3,l95l. This ended our Junior year with twenty-nine members promoted to the rank of Seniors. During the summer one member of the class took a retest and two new boys came from Hamburg making a total of thirty-two members to begin their last year at Perry. As in recent years we were again happy to greet our new teachers. They were Mr.Gene Roberts, teaching mathematics, Miss Saranne R1chards,teaching home economics, and Mr. John Huntzinger, teaching social studies and art leaving Mr. John Talnack devoting all of his tmne to music. As an annual affair we held our Halloween Social on October 29,195l,which was enjoyed by all. We lost one member this year leaving us with seventeen girls and fourteen boys. Shirley Einsel and William Hill represented our class in debating. Robert Dietrich , David Adam, and William Hill represented our class in the band. On January sev- enth we chose our class motto nUnited We Stand,D1vided We Falla. On April the eighteenth some members of the class enjoyed participating in the operetta Jerry of Jericho Road ' Shirley Einsel, and Janet Marks,W1lliam Hi11,and Richard Dunkelberger were in All County Chorus. The class will be going to Washington D.C- on their class trip. As we march on, may we look back at the great times that we all had at Perry Township High School. Q-0,,yuxy.BYhQl'-pt-Q1 CLAS .' The rocket ship PHS-52 was designed and developed by Kenneth Reinhart who is a leading scientist of today. Those preparing to leave on the expedition are:Donald Grim, pilot 3 Frank Metrolis, co-pilot: Clyde nepner is the head mechanic on this ex pedition. Jean Hess is the air hostess and lavid Adam is the leader of the ex edition for be has done much work of a similar type since he gr aduateg from Kest Point. Jean Miller is Lavid's private secretary an d I being a nurse am going on the expedition too. Time passed quickly from the take-off on'earth until we landed upon Mars. Ihere civilization was highly developed and Marsians welcomed us and showed us their country. In their science laboratories we found to our amazement something that looked like a large television set. Then our guide told us the set could be operated by one person and as this person's mind wondered, the machine would follow and answer anything a person desired to know. He turned on the set and ask us who would like to operate it. I was very anxious to try and so I took hold of the set of knobs the guide showed to me and my mind traveled to New York: then as if we would tune in channel six on our own television set in came a icture of New York City with all the noise and excitement. I spied a gall, Carnneige Hall where a symphony was in progress and on a large p oster is the name William Hill, Symphony Conductor. On fifth avenue I see Ruth Stetzler's Beauty Salon, I always knew she would make good. I see Evelyn Miller. She is walking into a psychAatrist's officegyes she must be working for himg in high school she wanted to be a medical sec retary. We now turn our viewing to Penna. I see a large farm, why I do believe the owner is John Sonon and the neighboring farm is owned by a Franklin Schappell and there he is on his tractor. Now I see Reading : anna Helter is working at the Berkshireg Helen Eubright is working in I do believe it is the Five a Ten, and there's a long line of people I believe they are waiting to eat at a restaurant owned by Loris Reigel, and Anna Keim. Is that Betty Hinnershitz working at Bell Telephone? Oh look over there, William Gundrum has an Electrical Shop on Penn Street and Gloria Turner and Mary Ireibelbis are working for him as secretar- 1930 Coming toward Perry Township I see a housing project and lohk there is Richard Iunkelberger driving a caterpillar. He is working for List- rich Construction and Engineering Co. Robert Lietrich must have done a good job in the engineering business. Jane Stitzel is taeching school- in the elementary building at P.H.S. Roselyn adam and Kathryn Rentsch- ler are driving around in a Ford Convertible, they said they would do well as secretaries. Ruth Hartman is a floor-lady in one of the local- factories. Janet Marks is a medical secretary working for a local doc- tor. Glenn Adam and Irvin Ketner are in the Air borce. Richard Btoudt' s home on leave: he's a Navy Pilot. Well it's time to turn off the set and see more of Mars. We all do hope that some day you can make this trip to Mras and see all the inte eresting and wonderful things up here as well as seeing all your class mates as I have seen mine.
