This is the day when high school seniors become high school graduates. It was a day that will remain in the minds of the Class of ’84 always. Each graduate walked down the aisle to receive that all important piece of paper that signified the culmination of twelve years of hard work. But the Class of 1984 came away not only with a piece of paper, but with a heart full of memories and good friends for life. The Class of 1984 was a very special class, and their memory will remain in the halls of Perry High School for years to come. No plaque or monument or scroll Could tell about her kindly soul, But family and friends will often retrace The memory of her cheerful face. Tomorrow by Randy Raffield There’s a stream of trouble across my path; It is black and deep and wide. Bitter the hour the future hath When I cross its swelling tide. But smile and sing and say, I will hope and trust alway, I’ll bear the sorrow that comes tomorrow, But I’ll borrow none today. Randy Raf field r -i •WtA •a Eric Fessor” Staples - Oct. 12, 1905 - May 25, 1984 Principal 1937 - 1969 Coach 1933 - 1965 Playing for Coach Staples in Perry prepared me for the contest in life. He taught us anything you wanted in life, you would have to pay the price. You would have to have the dedication to give total effort. Sen. Sam Nunn Eric Staples was the most successful boys’ high school basketball coach in history. He won 924 games and lost only 198 in his thirty-three year career as the boys' basketball coach at Perry High School. This was more than any other prep coach in history, according to the National High School Sports Record Book. From 1933 to 1965 Mr. Staples won eight Georgia state basketball titles, and in 1956 he was inducted into Georgia Prep Sports Hall of Fame. Everybody is missed when he dies, but few will be missed by as many folks as will Eric Staples. As editors of the 1983-84 annual staff, we hope this yearbook represents all the students at Perry High and the events which took place during the school year.
