T R A C K 59 o VO The Perry Panther track team once again captured the 3AAA Region Track meet in Warner Robins this year. Our guys gave an outstanding performance which took them to State. At the state track meet Gary Felder took third place in the hurdles. Thomas Ragin came in first in the discus with a throw of over 162 feet. This was the best perfor- mance in the track meet. Congratulations to the track team for a job well done! o N T H E R CJ N 61 + . • ) 'W '1 BEST OF TIMES WITH FACULTY VS Myra Andrews Records Clerk Lilli Ann Barrett Bookkeeper Anna Katherine Armitage English Donna Arrington Chorus Johnny T. We are climbing toward that future goal of adulthood; We are becoming older, more mature and responsible. We are changing even more as time progresses. The future lies within our own hands; therefore, We must shape and mold it to perfection in our own time. And also, learn how to cope with the changes. Here are our friends. We had great times this year — laughing, joking, just being together. Our senior year was the most frantic of all, and yet the most enjoyable because we knew deep down inside that it would be over all too soon. Our graduation signaled childhood’s end. We split up to take our individual places in the world as adults. Never again would we be as carefree as we were this year. Yet — we cannot help but see this not only as a conclu- sion, but as a beginning. Though we leave our old friends, we go on to make new ones, tak- ing with us the fond memories of our younger days. That’s why I ask you to read this as though your life depends on it... because it does. Jesus was very clear as to what He requires of you and me. Jesus said, “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:5 Jesus said, “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36 Listen to some things JESUS DID NOT SAY 1 JESUS DID NOT SAY BEING A NICE PERSON IS ALL THAT IS REALLY NECESSARY. If that were true, we wouldn’t need a Savior. But God says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” All of us have failed to live up to God’s law and therefore stand guilty before Him. 2 JESUS DID NOT SAY BEING RELIGIOUS AND GOING TO THE RIGHT CHURCH IS WHAT REALLY COUNTS. The need to be “born again” was originally presented not to a criminal off the streets but to Nicodemus, a sincere, respected, religious leader of his day. To such a man Jesus said, “You must be born again.” And He says the same thing to you and me. 3 JESUS DID NOT SAY A LOVING GOD WOULD NEVER CONDEMN ANYONE TO HELL. Yes, God is perfect love. But he is also perfectly just. And that justice makes it impossible for Him to allow our sinfulness to go unpunished. So God the Father sent Jesus Christ His only begotten Son in the likeness of man to offer His blood and life to pay our unbearable debt. Jesus was and is and forever shall be perfect and sinless and was the only qualified person whose life and blood could pay our penalty and remove us from the coming wrath of a holy God. If we refuse to receive Jesus as Lord of our life thereby rejecting God the Father’s only way that provides us forgiveness then we must suffer the penalty for our own sins in a lake of burning fire. JESUS DOES SAY 1 Jesus says, “Unless you repent you too will all perish.” Luke 13:5 2 Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me.” John 14:6 3 Jesus says, “Come to me all you who are weary . and burdened and I will give you rest.” Matt. 11:28 Friend aren’t you empty and tired of the way you have been living? You are old enough to die, there is no assurance you’ll have tomorrow. Are you prepared to die? All those false religions and phony philosophies will leave you unprepared and alone. Jesus can prepare you to live or die. Don’t allow phony Christians to keep you from Jesus. Jesus knows who belongs to Him and He predicted there would be phony Christians (see Matt. 7:21-23). Don’t let your pride and other people’s failure keep you from entering into a new, wonderful life that can begin right now — and get better every day — forever. What we need to do to be born again is to turn from our sins and wholeheartedly put our trust and confidence in Jesus. You have got to “mean Business” for God knows your heart. He said you would find Him when you seek Him with all your heart. God’s word tells us in Romans 10 that if we would speak out and proclaim Jesus as the Lord of our life and believe in our heart that God the Father did in fact raise Jesus from the dead then we would be saved. If you have now asked Jesus to come into your life as Master then you now realize the blessing of being at peace with God Almighty. Jesus went back to the Father in Heaven and we’ll have the opportunity to see Him later. For now God the Father has sent His Holy Spirit to indwell us and strengthen us to walk and love as Jesus. When we miss the mark the Holy Spirit gently points it out and we get back on track as we are now extremely uncomfortable when we sin. Let us share this wonderful good news of how man can now be at peace with God and himself. Now by God’s help we can blossom into a wonderful new creation. My prayer is that you have made this true commitment to Jesus and God will do for you what He has done for a wretch like me. 168 His peace to you, A friend of Jesus OF XhOMEs TOWN COUNTRY REALTY of Perry 1127 Macon St. • Perry, GA 31069 912 987-1366 Lake Joy Roller Rink 333 Lake Joy Road Perry, GA 987-2639 We Cater to Private Parties, Clubs, Churches, and Organizations ESTABLISHED 1904 BADCOCK Home Furnishings Center 987-2350 Mickey Smith: Owner 1115 Ball St. Perry, GA 31069 Compliments of Hamby Chevrolet 169 Compliments of first in cellulose Flint River Operations THE BUCKEYE CELLULOSE CORPORATION a Procter £ Gamble company P.O. MOM, DAD, and ALICE 171 THANK YOG COLONEL POLNOSZEK In 1971 after having completed over thirty-three years in the Air Force, Lieutenant Colonel Leo Polnoszek retired from the Air Force and came to Perry High School. The Air Force loss was a gain for Perry High School. After arriving Colonel Polnoszek was never satisfied with mediocre results, and took it upon himself to build an Air Force Junior ROTC at Perry High School which would be second to none. From 1971 until his retirement in 1983, Colonel Polnoszek taught over 2,000 students in the Air Force Junior ROTC Program. He not only taught ROTC, but taught lessons of life by his example. He felt that telling someone to maintain standards which he would not keep was pointless. Students that studied under Colonel Polnoszek have gone on to be successful in the business world and community. And the impact of his stay at Perry High will be felt for a long time. Colonel Polnoszek will be remembered here for many things, but more than anything he will be remembered as a great man who cared very deeply for the students he taught and always had time to listen and help. Colonel Polnoszek we miss you, and you will never be replaced. Johnny T. Barton, Com. We have all had our share of bad times — making a bad grade on a test or losing a game. But the good times always far out weigh the bad — time spent with special friends, an A on a project, or beating a rival. We hope as you look through this yearbook in years to come that you will remember all the good times you have had at Perry High School. This yearbook would not have been possible without the help of some very special people. We appreciate all the work D.E.C.A. did helping us sell ads. A big “thank you” goes to the Houston Home Journal and Dewey Cason for supplying us with pictures. Joey Hendrick, Joe Stinson, John Stinson and Stuart Bogue deserve a special thank you for being staff photographers, and Ken Thomas for being school photographer. To the rest of the annual staff, I would like to say thank you for all your help this past year. You have been a great staff. We owe the biggest thanks to Mrs. Hartman and Mrs. Pope for all their advice. Without their guidance we never would have made it. Always remember these . . .
