The fighting Perry Panthers have, again, had a winning basketball team. Much effort and practice have been the formula for this success. The mem- bers of the team, Coaches Staples and Holland, along with the managers, are to be commended for their excellent work. Graduation will hit the Panthers this year. but not as hard as usual. We will lose three members of this year's team. As this article goes to press, there are four more games to be played, and we have a record of twenty wins and four losses, three of these from Class AA teams. The Third District Tournament will be held here this year and our hopes for victory are high. Win or lose, the spirit and the sentiments of Perry High will remain the same. We are proud of our boys this year for the fine work they have done. 'THIRD DISTRICT CHAMPS, 1955 1954-55 Opponent Montezuma , Cochran , , Vienna Grady ,,,, Northside R. E. We feel that we were lucky in having chosen for us Fred Wlittcrn of Fritzlar. Germany. tHis first name is jochim . . . we learned to spell it hut not to pronounce it. so we call him Fred .l It took Fred only a short time to make himself one of us, and he has entered into all of the school activities so easily and so quietly. that it seems that he has been with us all of the time. when he uses our language so fluently . . . and spells with the upper half of the American horn, we listen in amazement. Wllen we go to his home to visit him, we hope he will act as interpreter.
