The Faculty of the Perry Schools has been maintained at a high level of preparation and experience with the exception of the vacancy in our vocal music department. The student body has shown a purposefulness not exhibited in the war years. Graduates of Perry High School last year again made the highest grade average of the various high schools represented at A. and M. college, Stillwater. This record was also made in 1941. Some eighty-five Perry graduates, many of whom are veterans, have entered the over- crowded colleges of the state. Seventy seniors will be in the graduating class this Year Considerable progress has been made on building conditions, equipment, and trans- portation as a result of the 548,000.00 bond issue of last spring. The installation of new electric wiring and fluorescent lighting in the high school did away with a serious fire hazard, and gave us an outstanding lighting system. The fluorescent lights will also be installed in the elementary building. The outside walls of the high school building have been repainted and water proofed and the roof repaired. Several class rooms have been repainted. One hundred forty new desks were placed in the high school, and approximately sixty in the grade building. A major operation of exterminating termites at the grade building has been completed. New pumps and boilers for heating the grade building and new pumps in the high school buildingwill be bought as soon as available. The kitchen of the hot lunch room of the grade building has been completely remodeled to care for the cooking for 250 children. Our transportation system is again in good condition. The inability to replace busses during the war years made the average bus age about nine years. Had it not been for our garage and very efficient service our transportation would have completely broken down during the war years. The bond issue of last spring included 510,000.00 for new busses. Two new ones have been bought and a third one will soon be received. Bids have been received for the construction of the new Vocational Agriculture Build- ing, but the price was beyond the available money. Further efforts will be made to get a contract for the building in the near future. The accomplishments of the Perry Schools during these unsettled times have been due to the progressive citizens of Perry who have always overwhelmingly voted for the annual mill levy for the maintenance of schools. They have never failed to vote a needed bond issue and building levy and have elected outstanding men to the Board of Education. Fcicziillty MR. JOHN DIVINE B.S., M.S. Miss Ruth Taber spon- sored the organization. These girls were divided into the following interest groups. Boy-Girl Rela- tions-Leader Mrs. Everett Nelson, Charm- Leader Miss Ethel Knox, Handicraft-Leader Miss Marie Unzicker, Music - Leader Mr. Orlan Lemler, and Dromatics- Leader Miss Ruth Taber. These girls meet once a month for a general program and three times a month in interest groups. The purpose of the organization is to make the girls: Gracious in manner, impartial in judgment, ready for service, loyal to friends, reaching toward the best, earnest in purpose, seeing the beautiful, reverent to God, victorious over self, ever dependable and sincere at all times. l,Disii'llmli1:u i'lll1lCllllOl1 Gliiln ln July l937 a Federally aided program of distributive education was started throughout the United States, funds appropriated by George Deen Act. Since that time the program has grown tremendously. This progress is indicated by the increased enrollment in classes, the number of State supervisors and teacher trainers employed by state boards of vocational education, and by the interest and cooperation of educators and businessmen. The officials of Perry High School feeling that Children should be taught to do better, those specific things they will do later set up the distributive education program in January l946, in Perry, twelve students regularly enrolled. Each student must be at least sixteen years of age and be in the Junior or Senior Class. He attends class for two forty-five minute periods in which he takes up material directly related to his field and material which is indirectly related such as store English, advertising, selling techni- ques, etc. ln addition to this he receives practical work experience under the direction of the sponsor who is a skilled worker in the employing establish- ment, He must be employed for an average of at least fifteen hours per week.
