ew Trend 1n Sound The Symphonic Band was one of many new additions to the music department. Only the more advanced instrumental students were placed in this organiza- tion. They performed at many convo- cations, played at the annual spring concert, entered the solo and ensemble contest at Indiana Central College, and with the joint cooperation of the Varsity Band, performed in the fall marching contest. Mr. Iverson was the director. The officers were Denny Rusher, Cap- tain, Debbie Fields, lst Lieutenantg Kristie Herr, 2nd Lieutenant, Mark Tharp, Master Sergeantg Worth Hartman, Technical Sergeantg Mark Muesing, lst Sergeant, Gary Gann, 2nd Sergeant. The twirlers who performed with the band were Drum Majorette, Gwynn Mot- leyg Feature Twirler, Cheryl Howard, Twirlers, Cindy Stoner, Patti Nikoll, Kathy Christie, Shelly Rafdal, Janet Sanderson, Audra Daily, Terry Cover- stone, Sandy Lester, Diane Miller, Kris Mobley, and Patty Ramsey.

Instrumental Students Created a World of Sound The orchestra was composed of selected eighth and ninth grade students from the symphonic band and all students who played a string instrument. Rehearsals X which demanded the attendance of the wind players as well as string players were held after school. This extra rehearsal time was used in preparation for ee V Christmas and Thanksgiving convocations and the Spring Concert held annually. In addition to these performances, the orchestra made a tour to some of .1 the Perry Township elementary schools. They played , 2, a few orchestra numbers and demonstrated the versa- ' tility of their instruments to their young audiences, it Mr. Iverson was the director. The officers were: Paul Saleba, Captain, Lynne Thompson, 1st Lieutenant, i1 Marlene Geiger, 2nd Lieutenant, Midge Kissling, Master Sergeant, Jeff Nay, Technical Sergeantg and jeff Hess, lst Sergeant. 34
