4 A NEW DECLARATION OF INTERDEPENDENCE In the course of human events, it sometimes becomes necessary for people to reconstruct the human bonds which have connected them to each other, and to the peoples of the % earth, 1976 is an appropriate time to de- velop those ties. Respect for the opinions of mankind requires, then, that we should explain our beliefs: ' We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are made by their Creator with certain undeniable needs; among these are Respect, Love, and the Desire to Belong.
