THE ROAD GOES ON FOREVER 1978-79 was a year of individual achievement. We all started the year with high hopes and great ambitions. Many achieved these ambitions on the playing field or in the classroom. Those who feel as if they didn't fulfill their ambitions should not be discouraged, for everyone achieved at least one thing. The freshmen achieved the distinction of being in high school. No longer were they little children going to grammar school, they were young adults attending high school. They have three years left in which to set their lifetime goals. The sophomores were trusted with many respon- sibilities. Some received their driver's licenses during the year. Some realized that now was the time to start think- ing seriously about their future. However, they still have two more years before any irreversible decision must be made. Some of the juniors received their classrings during the year. They now had a valuable keepsake to cherish for the rest of their lives. They planned Prom '79, a great achievement for those who worked to make it a success. Many of them started deciding which college they wished to attend, or what line of work they wished to enter. They have but one year left to make their decisions. The seniors faced the choice of going to college or start- ing out on a lifetime of work. It was an extremely difficult choice, decided on differently by each individual. We all realize one thing, however, our high school days were the happiest time of our lives. Last year, their junior year, they chose class 'tg' 1 ' 3 4 ' 7 9 ' -'-3' - ' 9344- Hmm- ggi colors, motto, flower, etc., in the usual tradition, The class A 'T'1 '- '4-'-'rfrg-7-5 'Q motto chosen was The road goes on forever. In keeping 'NM' . with the seniors, we have chosen their motto as the theme X ' 'R of this year's GALLEON. The road that runs through the M fy' + 325 book is symbolic of the road that each of us-had to follow , ., --fe rgffi through life. g , In gg, So seniors, here it is. Your book. We salute you for your X work, and hope that the load you carry next year and in ,k,. future years may be light as you travel down your road that Ll . N, is leads on forever. 6- sf wr S W1 .lu-Q., -un.. .,.....o:,-f ' After the defeat of the bond referendum last year, the Perquimans County Board of Education began plans to use what funds they had available. They discussed plans with consultants and decided on the plans for new classrooms and renovation of the gym to provide new locker rooms. E The plans call for a new building between the gym and main building which will eventually house the ad- ministrative offices. Three new classrooms will be added to the library while the original three will be modified to enlarge the library itself. Another classroom building will be built beside the library and gym. Preliminary construction began a few days before Christmas vacation. The new buildings are scheduled for completion by Christmas '79, The new additions should prove useful in years to come, providing space for new and diverse programs.
