Eric Cohoon and Eddie Pierce were the IV captains. In August, the annual summer football practice began for the Iunior Varsity Football players. For many, organized football was a new experience. There was also a new coach, Don Inscoe, and of course, it took time for coach and team to get used to each other. The season began with high hopes which were quickly extinguished as the Edenton Aces devastated the Pirates with an aerial attack. The game finally ended with a score of 0 to 28. The next game did not end favorably for the Pirates either. The IV's were completely outmatched by a veteran West Carteret team. Final score: Pirates 0, West Carteret 56. The conference season got underway against the Camden Bruins. In what tumed out to be a hard-fought game, Camden eventually overcame the Pirates with a score of 6 to 20. The next game, against Murfreesboro, proved to be a tum around for the IV's. In their second conference game, the Pirates demonstrated they could succeed with an eight to six victory over the Raiders. The IV's fifth game was a rematch of the first conference game. After this hard-fought contest, Perquimans once again came out on the short end - 6 to 8. The last game of the season was played on Murfreesboro's home field. The IV team had been trimmed to eleven players. Although the eleven gave it all they had, Murfreesboro over-powered the trimmed-clown Pirates by a score of 0 to 28. IV-Football 115
