JUNIOR HIGH STUDENT COUNCIL The Junior High Student Council got underway this school year by electing Bill Taylor as Presidentg Judy Ehrhardt, Vice-Presidentg Karen Kingseed, Secretaryg and Jerry Kaufman, Treasurer. Other members include Charles Popke, Jim Heidl, Daryl Deering, and Gerald Smith. Miss Beverley Hanley acted as advisor. The council sponsored four dances for the Junior High student body during the first semester. The dances were held on September 27, October 18, November 22, and January 17. The money made from the sale of refreshments at these dances was donated, on decision of the student council, to the fund for band uniforms and costumes for the Junior High cheerleaders. Instead of the usual Christmas gift exchange in the homerooms the student council voted to replace this by bringing cans of food to be distributed among the needy families of Perkins Township. One of the biggest projects handled by the student council this year was the publication of the Student Handbook . The purpose of this handbook was to acquaint new students with our school. It contained, among other things, a self-evaluation sheet, rules for the cafeteria, halls, library, and study halls, and the sports, activities, and clubs available to Junior High students. This past year Terry Leber did a fine job as announcer for the Junior High over station PJH . Sponsored by the Student Council, Terry, each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday announced the school news and events over the school's public address system. The Student Council started the second semester by electing Judy Ehrhardt as President, Daryl Deering, Vice-President, Karen Kingseed, Secretary: and Jerry Kaufman, Treasurer. Two of the biggest projects of the second semester were the sponsoring of student pictures and also the sponsoring of this yearbook. The Student Council welcomed two new members second semester, Tom Stimson from 8-3 and Randy Hassinger from 7-3. In addition to the four dances sponsored by the Council in the first semester dances were held on February 21, March 28, and May 9 for the Junior High students. The dance February Z1 was a special hard times dance. These dances were very successful and were enjoyed by all those who attended. One of the most exciting events of the last semester was the Awards Day which was also sponsored by the Student Council. Awards were given in recognition for participation in sports, cheerleading, chorus and band.
