Senior members of NaTional Honor SocieTy also presenTed ScoTT wiTh his own bronzed shoe which he wore when he won The Kinney NaTional Cross- CounTry TiTle. This year's Scholar-AThleTe award winners were KaTherine Lucal and Greg Hanchin. The Perkins' girls wound up wiTh 37 poinTs, nine more Than runnerup Clyde. They won The Track TiTle and placed second in cross-counTry, volleyball, and Tied for second in Tennis. The PiraTes added fourThs in sofTball and baskeTball. SILVER YEAR SIZZLES! The 25Th graduaTing class began To Think abouT caps and gowns lasT SepTember and now The Time To say goodbye To PHS has finally arrived. During The year we have seen The good and The bad of The socieTy we will soon be a parT of. In The midsT of hurrying To finish our 5x8 cards, we viewed many world happenings. Among Them were The insTallaTion of a new SovieT leader, The assassinaTion of lndia's Gandhi, The famine in Africa, a war beTween iran and Iraq. and The firsT successful solo balloon flighT across The ATlanTic. LasT November some of us voTed for The firsT Time, This was a very exciTing elecTion because, for The firsT Time, a woman was The Vice- PresidenTial CandidaTe for The DemocraTic ParTy. Ronald Reagan won The PresidenTial ElecTion for The second Time. T'Beverly Hills Cop , DesperaTely Seeking Susan . Passage To india , and The BreakfasT Club were popular movies. Chicago, Springsfeen, U2, Madonna were popular musical TalenTs. This was a year of VCRs, Trivial PursuiT, SwaTch waTches, and 'TVVhere's The beef? commercials. Many of The aThIeTic Teams had Their ups and downs. The fooTball Team ended wiTh a 3-7 record, while The volleyball Team ended second in The SBC. Once again The boys' cross coounTry Team placed firsT in The SBC. The girls' cross counTry Team and The girls' Tennis Team boTh ended wiTh a SBC second place. LasTly, The Perkins golfers won firsT place in The SBC, ScoTT Fry was This year's cross counTry champion and was also The naTional cross counTry champion. Boys' baskeTball ended wiTh a 9-5 SBC record, and The girls finished wiTh a 7-7 record. WresTlers placed second in The SBC. Three members of The Team qualified To go To sTaTe. AT sTaTe Barry Crawford placed sixTh. The swim Teams led an exciTing year wiTh many wins in diving and racing. The spring sporTs Teams also ended wiTh respecTable records. Academically, Perkins sTudenTs wre successful. EighT science sTudenTs placed firsT in sTaTe science compeTiTion. Mike Tommas won ninTh place aT The sTaTe FFA general livesTock judging. Mike Kim placed ninTh in The American High School School MaTh Exam, while The maTh Team Took eIevenTh. STacey Lowery was Elks STudenT of The Year . Marching and ConcerT Bands and The Wind Ensemble received ouTsTanding raTings dT sTaTe. The spring musical was The Sound of Music , direcTed by Mr. Craig Dieferich. Julie Long was Homecoming Queen and JoAnn GarreTT was CBBS Queen. The year 1985 marks a year of changes for PHS. Mr. Harold BuTcher, Mr. Richard Norman, Mr. John STone, and Mrs. Jane Zimmerman all have chosen To reTire. We Thank Them for Their years of dedicaTion.
