l MIP: C. Lynn Captains: S. Fry, D. Cousino MVPI 3- FYY PIRATES CLAIM SRD CCNSECUTIVE SBC CROWN Scott Fry State Champ f . The boys' cross country team had a good season this year. Their only loss was to the triple A Sandusky squad my my at Mills late in the season. The Pirates lost to Sandusky by one point and it was their first loss in 35 meets. fl-its , ' Vi 'Sf 7 li The varsity defended their SBC I' crown well and won first place by a f A 45 point margin as Clyde and St. xg if Mary's tied for second at 76. The rs PX EN JV's ran strong at the conference meet, sweeping the top six places. In addition to the SBC title, the 1 Pirates also won the Norwalk Invitational and were runners-up at the highly competitive BGSU 0 Invitational and the Gallon invitational. At the end of the season the team boasted a 42-4 '1 ' record. ' Chris Lynn, senior MIP for the squad, was on the first team all-SBC this year before he advanced individually to district competition while juniors Todd Pack and Steve Riesterer were tabbed on the second team all-SBC. Fry went undefeated in 1984 and was State Champion in the AA individual race. His time of 141502 was the fastest time in the state and made him the state record holder. .L-. ,- 'T X? Q GIRLS HAVE BANNER SEASON -'IO WINS 2 LGSSES Senior co-captains Pam Moats and Penny McClusky led the girl's cross country team to a 10-2 season and a second place finish in the SBC. First year runner, Robin Maag. was voted MIP for the squad as McClusky was named MVP. McCIusky also earned first team all-SBC honors and was a district qualifier. Also moving on to district competition for the Pirates was second team all- SBC member Kendra Camp. This talented freshman ran well throughout the season but suffered a hip injury at the district meet that kept her from finishing the race. McClusky had a stroke of bad luck as she was edged out of the state meet by one place. l
