Oliver Percy L. Julian High School opened in i975 as a means to eliviate overcrowding of neighboring schools. Percy L. Julian High School was to be considered a school within a school using the house concept. The houses were named from the Greek Alpha- bet considered the seat of knowledgeg Alpha, Beta, Gamma, in which L895 students were di- vided. Based on the student population first entering Julian, the curriculum was strongly geared towards meeting a full spectrum of aca- demics including basic essential courses. Now in i985 the curriculum ranges from basic to college level courses in all disciplines. ln the beginning there were few athletic teams. Through the years Julian has grown and pros- pered into a school respected for it's athletic accomplishments. All these things and more were done at Julian High School and certainly would not have been possible without the help and guidance of Dr. Edward H. Oliver, who was selected by the community to be principal. Dr. Oliver was pre- sent at the opening of this institution and is still working hard to continue it's progress. Our principal and the community have struggled over the years to nurture Julian into the school it is today. As Fredrick Douglass said, lf there is no strug- gle there is no progress . Dr. Oliver and the community have put up the struggle and as a result Percy L.
