He ls Our Sports Director, Teacher And Friend. For Giving Us The Tools And Example For Our Own Beginnings We Thank You Herr Milan Kratzer Ddt LEADERSHIP These are people who temporarily replaced our parents from time to time- those who taught us to run after we'd learned to walk. Some patted us on the back or scolded us when we needed itg others planned our social calendar and cleaned up our mistakes. They pointed us in different directionsg showed us roads from which to choose. We owe them a great deal. Now, after they've taught us so much, they're telling us one more thing-we've only just begun. -Tammy Gregg 6 Admini For the Board of Education and the Administration of the Pequea Valley School District, may l extend congratu- lations to the class of 1984, for having completed your secondary studies. May l also extend my personal re- gards and best wishes for success to each of you as you face the future. lt is my fervent hope that in some mea- sure, we have given you a foundation upon which you can build and by which you will be sustained as you meet the challenges, the problems, and the opportunities which come your way. The three top scorers were Doug Dietrich with 5 goals, Tim Quigley with 3 goals, and Allen Hillard with 2 goals. Their record was 1 win, 15 losses, and 2 ties. The Jr. Varsity soccer team had a very good team this year. Their three top scorers were Irvin Slaymaker with 9 goals, Greg Hadsell with 6 goals, and Eric High with 5 goals. I believe the statistics speak rather well as to the basic problem of the team. We obviously didn't generate enough offense. ln eight of four- teen games, we didn't even score. ln our five losses, we suffered three major defeats, proving that when we became overpowered, we panicked and lost concentration. What the statistics do not reveal is that in four of our five league ties and in four of our non-league ties, we dominated the play. ln our 1-O loss to Conestoga Valley, the team from our section to advance the most in district play, we played very well. Therefore, we cannot forget that our opponents outscored us three to one: conversely, we cannot forget that we only lost five of fourteen games, maintaining an equilib- rium with nine other teams, Hopefully, next year we can hurdle that impasse and turn the nine ties into victories. -Coach Ruth Bicking Most Valuble Player: Offense'Suzette Wenger, Defense'Lois Bagshaw. Their record of O and 20 was the worst ever ex- perienced by a P.V. Cross Country team. The season started off on the wrong foot as two of the top runners could not make the first meet. The team also suffered from more injuries than normal through- out the season. Next year things will look better as the top two runners will be return- ing. Marke Dickinson as a sen- ior and Mickey Yackanech as a Senior. Hopefully, with the pro- posed track team there will be a revised interest in the Cross Country. Twelve years of school and now they are done. We have so many roads to choose. We have learned to walk, now to run. We've just begun. We are sharing horizons that are new to us, before the rising sun of our desti- nies. So far, we have watched the world go by together. Now we must choose a path on our own. She was born on October 26, 1899, in Leacock Township. ln March of Edna's twenty-third year, she married John L. Sweigart. She and her husband owned a general merchandise store in Spring Garden until 1943 when they moved to a nearby farm. They lived there until John died in January of 1956. Then Edna sold the farm and moved to a house in Spring Garden. She then was hired in 1958 by Pequea Valley High School. ln 1963 she had her home built in Intercourse. Three years later she married Paul Seldomridge on September 15, 1966. However, in May of 1971, Mr. Seldomridge Drive, still working at Pequea Valley until her death. Two of her three brothers, Raymond and Mylin, live nearby in Gap and Lancaster respectively. The other brother, Paul, lives in Maryland. All four of her sisters, Velma, Dorothea, Evelyn, and Elsie, live nearby in Gap, Intercourse, Ephrata, and New Holland. Another little known fact gg about Edna was that every year that Edna worked for Pequea, she .Q purchased a yearbook. We will all miss Edna for she always gave us one more laugh at lunch. We will miss you Edna, you'll Always be j part of the way we were. ,W We thank all the teachers who allowed us out of class now and then to rush for a deadline. Especially Mr. Deemer for not giving Doug a - I detention, Mr. Albert and Mr. Williams for their understanding, and Mr. In Appreclatlon' Bernecker. We thank Mrs. Antonucci and Mrs. Wenger for the use of the typewriters and Mr. Bassett for his class time spent on yearbook emergen- cies. We thank Miss Reed for her help in assigning the seniors a paragraph to write to use in the yearbook and Miss Bicking for taking the yearbook club, not only once but twice. We would very much like to thank the office secretaries, Mrs. Hershey and Mrs. Stewart for copying class lists, giving us envelopes and letterhead paper, taking telephone calls, delivering messages, and paging the janitor for the keys to the darkroom. The secretaries almost did as much work on this yearbook as the staff did. We want to thank Mr. King for all his help and understanding. We will never forget everything he has done for the 1983-84 Pequoian. We would also like to thank the members of the yearbook staff who weren't just members who showed up for the picture, but active members who stayed after school on Thursdays and worked all night Sunday until early morning when the deadline was Monday. We would not only like to thank Mary Canter, but also commend her. She began this year without knowing anything about laying out a page, but she learned quickly and we named her our Layout Editor. She told us when layouts had to be redone and volunteered to do them herself. She became very frustrated at times, but after she pulled her hair out then she said, This will work, I don't know how, but this will work. And Last and most we would like to thank Mrs. Kay Rohrer for saying yes to the position of yearbook adviser. lf another person had taken this position, that person may have been the kind who sat in the room and babysat. But Mrs. Rohrer didn't. While working a part-time job at Lancaster Newspapers she forced us to make our deadlines while still having to make her own deadlines. She opened her home to us and offered her spare moments to the yearbook you now hold in your hands. Mrs. Rohrer used the newspaper facilities and her time for rush pictures. She worked with GeorJean's for better pictures and taught us how to take our own pictures. Getting things done is a major goal for the completion of a yearbook, but getting things done with accuracy, precision, and imagination is even more important. Mrs. Rohrer knew it and this year she taught us what a yearbook is really all about. We hope that our yearbook can be used as an example of new ideas and experiments for the yearbooks of the future, as we have used the yearbooks before us. -Tammy Gregg and Doug Byler Pequoian Editors 1983-84 ff, f fi On September 20, 1983, after 25 years of employment in the passed away.
