HCDMECOMI G Homecoming 1969 was made special by the dedication of the dance to our foreign exchange student, Everhard Labots, as a welcome from the student body. The highlight of the dance was the presentation of the queen and her court, also a new innovation to the annual festivities. The court included Carol Eby, Carolyn Hershey, Sally Mowrer, -and loanne Burnley. Suzy Bryer, president of the Student Coun- cil, which sponsored the event, crowned Sharon Stoltzfus 1969 Home- coming Queen. A new tradition begun this year is the queen's retention of her crown until the following year when she returns to pass it on to the new queen. My ,K ' M PM T ' WW . lr! lwMlln,, it rw , . They compiled a total of one win, six losses, and one tie. The win was over Manheim Township, and the tie came after a hard battle with Man- heim Central. The scoring came from the offensive line consisting of wings Wanda Flores and jane Hoober, inners joanne Burnley and Lynn Morrow, and center forward Bonnie Groff. The defense backed up the line with half- backs Sharon Stoltzfus, Denise Lantz, and Deb Ruth. The fullbacks were Debbie Hewes and Vicki High. The goalies were Reta and Bobbie Hillard. Regular goalie Lu- cinda Brackbill was lost through injury. Senior defense practices warm-up drill. 7 -, 1 l 1 1 1 i k 4 e I 1 5 lf: 7 s,, In 5 9' i I I 3 ' 1: y , . X 1 I II ' f , ' 0 k . Although in the victory department the team has been cut short, it is young and the runners are improv- ing more each year. The top runner, called Pequea's Mr, Cross-Country by Coach Siegel, is Vernon Mar- EET shall. As a sophomore, Vernon placed third in the county meet and had the best time and best record on the team. The junior-Senior play was entitled Erasmus With Freckles . Cast in the lead- ing role as a precocious young boy in love with Brigitte Bardot was Duane Hershey. He lived with his father Bob Leaf Uvlace Hiltonj, two sisters, Pandy and Cissy fLucinda Brackbill and joanne Sangreyl and his Aunt Abigail Uvlaria Morrisl on a houseboat. Resulting from his correction of an error at the Bank of America, a child psychologist, Vina, fDonna Clarkl came to do a study of Erasmus, but seemed to concentrate more on his fa- ther. Finally Erasmus made a mistake, but the story ended on a happy note as the family returned to normal and Vina mar- ried Mr. Leaf. For then annual producuon Us rahe money for their scholarship fund, the Pe- quea Valley Education Association pre- sented a comedy entitled Pick a Dilly . The biggest hindrance is a lack of height. Almost every game one or more of the members was burdened with defending an opponent who was two, three, or even four inches taller. Basketball spirit reached an all-time high at Pequea this year. The cheerleaders sponsored a limited poll among the fans to choose the most outstanding offensive and defensive players for the season. Mark Denlinger and Bob Esbenshade were the winners. 1 X x 1 ur .M 17 X A FT is Q. The festivities began on Friday eve- ning, February 13, with a folk concert by Mr. larjisian, his cousin Mark, and Kent Snell. The carnival itself was held all day Sat- urday, February 14. Booths were set up by organizations from the school and com- munity. Gne of the highlights was the pie-throwing booth, sponsored by the American Field Service. Several teachers volunteered to have whipped cream pies thrown at them by students. Another popular booth was the cheer- leaders' Test Your Reaction Time . Two people competed at a time, and the one with the slower time was rewarded with an electric shock. The National Honor Society's pie- eating contests attracted many spectators as well as contestants. A five-dollar cash prize was awarded the person who could eat the most pie in five minutes. In the first contest, NHS President Bob Esben- shade consumed the most pie, but in the second, his record was broken by Art An- derson, who took the prize. ns I AFP S PONSQR VVI TER CA IVAL ., gary .. 63 ly B '-g, M -.a:sf f.:::- Q .1 - :,.,. 3: 'H xg? .. . rlz f f '5 'fz- i l23 J4 W . ,. .KX i x X555 a X ,-.L .. ::-:- Q NX .':::sf fx .' The cheerleader's job is to lead the stu- dents in providing that support. New uniforms, consisting of culottes and a vest, instead of the traditional sweater, were bought this year. In order to purchase these, several fund-raising activities were held. They included a car wash in October, a Christmas tree sale, and the sale of Braves buttons. The cheerleaders also sponsored their annual Parents' Nights during the winter sports season. They were advised by Mrs. Dawn Vasko.
