It is not the earth it is not America, who is so great, It is I who am great, or to be great - it is you up there, or anyone, It is to walk rapidly through civilizations, governments, theories, Through poems, pageants, shows, to form great individuals. Underneath all, individuals! I swear nothing is good to me now that ignores individuals. The American compact is altogether with individuals, The only government is that which makes minute of individuals, The whole theory of the universe is directed to one single individual - namely to You. - WALT WHITMAN I-ll --T' SENIOR CLASS A OF THE PEQUEA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL RD. Remley, Supervising Pringi- pal, and Arthur W. Eshelman, Pequea Valley High School Principal, have worked together for greater efficiency in the school system and better Lmderstanding between the school and the community. Mr. Remley, who came to Pequea Valley in 1963, is an active member of the Salisbury Lions Club, and serves as an elder in his church. This spring will highlight the com- pletion of an important project which Mr, Remley has supervised since his coming to the area - the opening of the new Intermediate school. Carefully planned to meet the needs of the growing school district, the school will have a capacity of 800 students, and will offer the finest teachers and educational equipment. Mr. Eshelman has been with Pequea Val- ley since its opening in 1956, and is a long- time resident of this area. He serves the community through the Paradise Lions Club and the Lancaster Council Boy Scouts Execu- tive Board. With Pequea Valley's enrollment at an all-time high of 793 students, Mr. Eshel- man alleviated many possible problems of overcrowding by the flexible eight-period day, and by the introduction of teacher's aides. The area Commimity Action Program and the summer educational program for the Welsh Mountain residents are a few of the many successful programs established this year by our administration. 913 secretaries at the high school. ixx anis f X W ,. 1' 4 ff f 1 4: 205' 1 1 4.1 K 'iii 1 :l j W 5.. :WMA Q ,4 1 , Y . The fear that graduation and inexperience would hamper champion- ship contention, vanished in a victory over McCasky. The team showed hustle, determination and desire to win and produced an outstanding season. Fin- ishing second in the county with a 9-2-1 record, they attributed much of their success to the fans who supported them in many rainy games and the excellent coaching of Mr. Bailey. i .Wy li, wg? , L-L mb ' ' Q' M . .. . The 1967 Basketball Team can not be judged by outward p e r f o r m an c e alone. Though compilingalosing record C4-145, the team showed desire and hustle throughout the season. The team was reasonably young, with only three seniors, John Kurtz, Ed McConaghy, and Rich Bomberger. Six juniors, Dave Hartraft, Pete Brown, Frank Howe, Craig Crandall, Mike Minchoff and Mike Burnley filled the varsity roster and one sophomor e, Al Rohrer, contributed greatly. Dave Hershey and Burnell Den- linger also saw varsity action this year. These boys showed quick actions and a sound knowledge of the game. Burnell will make a fine player in years to come. On the whole the team had a better sea- son than last, and with only two of the start- ing five graduating this year, the future looks promising for Coach Sclichter and the team. It was much more than a year in an American high school. Many thanks for the beau- tiful Christmas giftS, help, and nice gestures, which made this year one I will never forget. lf anybody comes to my beautiful Austria just let me know and I'll help you to get to know my coun- try and my people. Thank you all again. When our family met Brigitte in New York City last Al1Ql1Si 18, 1966, we felt a kinship with her right from the start. Her roles as both daugh' ter and sister have been carried out with insight and reSpOUSibi1itY on her part. On our part, we have tried not to make Brigitte a celebrity, but rather one of the family with concomitant privileges and responsi- bilities. The true value of an exchange program of this type is gaining an awareness of other people, their background, their ideas. This has been a mutual learning process for both Brigitte and for us. We earnestly h0De for a continuation of this program in the future.
