The Senior Class de- parted early in the morn- ing for aday in New York City. Upon arrival the group toured the United Nations' Building. After this interesting and edu- cational experience, the class went to the top of the tallest building in the world, the Empire State Building. Lunchtime took most of the students to Macy's, one of the largest department stores in the Tired already! ? Only Lancaster countians would think to buy soft pretzels in New York! Our weary but faithful advisors: A. Balchunas, R. Yashek, B. Matt. Has anyone seen Mr. Mc- Cormick lately ? city. A tour of uptown New York completed the afternoon's activities. For more than a week beforehand juniors and seniors worked franti- cally to obtain the best publicity space and de- sign the most eye- catching posters. The two opposing parties this year were: the V.I.P. CVery Impor- tant Partyj, spear- headed by Rick Gra- bowski and advised by Mr. Musser, and the Inspirator party, strongly led by Denny Deisley and supervised by Mr. McCormick. The moment of decision came later in the day as the sopho- m o r e s , juniors, and seniors went to the polls to vote by ma- chine. The election results surprised everyone: all nine In- s p i r a t o r candidates won offices, causing one of the biggest land- slides in Pequea's his- tory. The victorious politicians spent either a day in Lancaster, where they were shown city projects and busi- nesses, or a day in Harrisburg, where the operation of our state government was ob- served. 4 .ff '92 W SEATED' J Kurtz D Hershey R Groff STANDING' G Kellenber er P.Brene- man, G. PEQUEA VALLEY had used a small newspaper for the last four years. The student body, as well as the faculty, were e nthu s i a s tic about the new format. Mr. Schlichter appointed the new staff in the spring of '65 and Mr. Meley took over as adviser in the fall. Linda Kling, Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Meley, Adviser Our new printers, Forrey and Hacker, were quite under- standing about the difficulties encountered by a new staff and adviser. The school board de- cided to underwrite the news- paper after years of red ink and dwindling subscriptions. The school board actually re- vivedthe newspaper and all of Pequea Valley echoes a sin- cere thank you! The staff decided to use the individual page editor. Each page editor became responsible for the layout and copy for his own page. As time went on, the staff became more competent in arranging layout. The staff attended the annual Snapper Conference at Millersville State College on March 19, 1966. It will be quite interesting to find out how the NEW PIONEER fares in the COLUMBIA SCHOLASTIC competition. Editors: SEATED - Harriet Moscovic, Carol Bouder, Nancy Walker. Miss Knott majored in Library Science at Millersville, and commented that Pequea's li- brary system is very good . Hailing from Springfield, Pa., Miss Knott hopes to teach somewhere in the area, and eventually enter into POSt-graduate work at Drexel. Coming up is a time for more right answers, beginning with one for the big question that faces all high school seniors, 'iWhere do I go from here? There'll be other big questions, too, requiring the same kind of careful study. We have a good idea how most of today's young people will respond to the challenges and decisions that lie ahead. They'll do it with keen judgment and mature responsibility, blended with disciplines and les- sons learned in the classroom. That's a combination that will be tough to beat. So go forth, class of 1966, and start making your marks. We wish you fulltillment of all your ambitions. D 'Free in Grassland Farming RUTTER'S ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES Paradise, Penna.
