We actively planned and sponsored a freshman dance, the January Jive after a basketball game. Ninth Grade Night with its theme, Pennsylvania's Heritage, brought a fitting close to an eventful year. With the advent of another year, we, the Class of '64, met as sophomores and elected a President, Glenn Esbenshadeg a Vice President, Gerard DeFrosciag a Secretary, Suzanne Buckwalterg and a Treasurer, Bob Fisher. We ordered our jackets for arrival during the winter months and chose rings with ruby, sapphire, or onyx stones for delivery in our junior year. We also selected light blue and white as the class colors and pickedwhite carnations as the class flowers. Everyone participated energetically to make the Class of '64 one long to be remembered. We enthusiastic juniors met in the fall of 1962 and again elected these officers: Presi- dent - Glenn Esbenshadeg Vice President - Gerard DeFrosciag Secretary - Suzanne Buck- walterg and Treasurer - Bob Fisher. Many juniors were among those ably representing Pequea Valley at County Chorus and District Band. A Girls' Trio and a Boys' Quartet were other musical features of the junior class. An outstanding musical comedy, Swinging High, was presented in the spring with many eminent juniors participating. Athletically, our dedicated Braves helped boost-Pequea Valley to its fifth consecutive District Three championship. The Youth Day in Governmentncampaign and the Junior-Senior play, Take Your Medicine, were other activities in which we whole-heartedly participated. As the year progressed, the class held a Bake and Soup Sale to help finance the Junior-Senior Prom, which had as its theme Italian Escapade. A banquet and a movie highlighted the prom and brought a close to another memorable year. Incredibly, it was school-time again! We - seniors at last! - determined to make ours the participating-est class in the history of Pequea Valley. We selected officers: President - Glenn Esbenshadeg Vice President - Don Ranck, Secretary - Mary Jane Howe, and Treasurer - Gerard DeFroscia. We plunged right into plans for the Junior-Senior play, A Majority of One,- as well as for a trip to New York. What a day that was! Nov- ember 8, 1963, will be remembered by many of us as the day in our high school careers. The climax to our fun- and education-filled years at Pequea Valley came when the com- mencement services were held on June 3, 1964. 4 S v ,,. Q f X, yr Class Officers GLENN E. The Braves ended the season in a tie with Penn Manor. Pequea hada 5-1-2 league record compared to Manor's 6-2 record but both teams has the same total of points--12 each. The playoff game, held at F gl M's field, went into double over- time with the score deadlocked at one goal apiece, thanks to Clarence Groff's lone tally. However, Penn Manor won the championship on the strength of their six corner kicks to Pequea Valley's five. Pequea placed two members on the county's 15 All-Star team. Earl Lacock, who finished second in the balloting for the Ray Link Award, made center-halfback. Allen Stoltzfus, the number two scorer in the league with 8 goals, made inside left. How- ever, honors did not end here as Rich Groff, Mike Eby, and Don Hershey made the second team. f' K A .v . Jr W ' , .. , .- W T 1 X U . Coach Bailey talks to varsity members. The team was hampered by several injuries and weight problems. It was only the team's first year in the league, but the team's showing was a minor disappointment compared to last year's record. Rod Peachy paced the team with a 6-6 record in league competition at the 138 weight class. Mike Eby, Bill Skowood, and Roy Shirk also turned in comparatively the same records. ln the District Playoffs Rod Peachy made it to the finals before he was eliminated. Glenn Colyer, Roy Shirk, and Bill Skowood were eliminated in the semifinals. The rest of the wrestlers were eliminated in the quarter finals. The team loses only five starting seniors, so the wrestling team's future looks pretty bright. Coach Shirley gives pre-match instruction to mighty mat HIGH. ff X-J J. V. WRESTLING TEAM L. tor. Substituting for teachers and visiting elementary schools gave them first-hand ex- perience inthe career. The club provided bulletin board displays and guides for Parents' Night, as well as sponsoring a dance, the Prof Hop, in January. Under the guidance of the advisor, Mr. Pohle, the F.T.A. continued in its program of its members and in- teresting others in teaching. Senior High Student Council STANDING l-r: R. The Senior High Student Council, led by President Richard King, endeavored to further the purposes stated in its constitution. In order to determine the will of the student body, it pro- viceda suggestion box in the library. To stimulate a spirit of co-operation among the students and faculty, it discussed the problems faced by both groups. Providing an opportunity for discussion of school activities resulted in a series of well-planned events, including Home- coming, the Schpooknacht Queen contest, an intramural program, the annual Halloween party, a semi-formal Christmas dance, the Sir Valentine contest, and a roller skating party. The election of the 1964-65 Student Council president served to develop responsibility, initiative, leadership, and school spirit among the students of Pequea Valley High School. ,ff 5' ff' f 'Q ,, if ff ! lf! .1 C n ,rvff 3 ,fan 4 f X :f l .2 ' Council Officers: Lynne Conybeare, Treasurer, Sharon Weaver, Secretaryg Richard King, President, Wilmer Stoltzfus, V. It is the home spot to me. My town has the right to my civic loyalty. It supports me and I should support it. My town wants my citizenship, not my partisanship, my friendliness, not my dissensionsg my sympathy, not my criticism, my intelligence, not my indifference. My town supplies me with pro- tection, trade, friends, education, schools, churches, and the right to free moral citizenship. It has some things that are better than others, the best things I should seek to make better, the worst things I should help to suppress. Take it all in all, it is entitled to the best there is in me. -Reprinted from FOODSTUFFS J. C. WALKER 81 SCJNS, INC.
