Eshleman ' A '- 'ff:- f'f'f- 1 To the Class of 1963 Seniors, I salute you. At this point of commencement, I must interject a ques- tion. Are you prepared for your commencement--thisffis, for the beginning of anew phase of your life? Face your own image--your points of perfection and your faults. It is easy to see the faults of others and hard to see our own. In order to face life, you must acknowledge your own image. Concerning your strong traits, are you using them to advantage? Is your think- ing unobscured and untainted? Is your character marked with lofty ideals ? In com- parison with others, have you a contagious personality? Concerning your faults, can you overcome them? Remember, there is no virtue in knowing your faults, if you do not overcome them. Great achievement is preceded by great preparation. Only you can determine your success. Know yourself, prepare yourself, believe in yourself, master yourself. When you have done these things, it is hard to fail. I congratulate you on your graduation. May providence be kind to you. Arthur W. Eshelman Wanner, H. son, J. Earl lter S. Den- . . . . . President , .Vice President , , , , , Secretall , , .Treasurer EPENDENT . . English rule was established in the new world, schools were founded and pioneers moved into the Mississippi Valley. Carrying farming supplies, ammunition and brave adventuresome people, the Conestoga Wagons pushed Westward into the frontier. Its origin in the Conestoga Valley of Pennsyl- vania gives the area a justifiable pride in its contribution to American development. Today's seniors do not have the romantic challenge of an uncivilized West, but the wheel tracks of the Conestoga Wagons have cut deeply into our American history. Our youth now finds its challenge in supporting and upholding the freedom of enterprise proposed by the first pioneers. Each span of years brings its own changes in the life of man. As the reader turns the pages of this yearbook of 1963, we hope to bring by an association of pictures and words a greater awareness of our proud American heritage. JOANNE C. CLARK JANET L. Education became compulsory, and laws were passed providing for free primary and secondary schools. The one room schoolhouse, upon which our present system is built, stands today as a memorial to those who in- stilled the spirit of freedom into learning. Our underclass- men must perpetuate this spirit, as only through proper edu- cation can American ideals survive. We ordered our jackets which we wore and enjoyed all winter and, al- though we won't receive them until September, we ordered our class rings. We sponsored several successful events this year including a roller skating party at Rocky Springs and a clothing drive at Christmas. Margaret Ranson brought top honors to the 10th Grade by winning a Blue Ribbon in the Scholastic Art Contest with her sculptured piece Time1ess Child, and Evie Hoober's alto voice blended with the others at County Chorus. In Intra Mural events the 10th Grade girls basketball team was runner-up while Dave Zimmerman and Glenn Shee captured the ping pong championship. . 46 Unlbf' President . . . Pequea won its fifth consecutive Lancaster County Championship. The Braves went on to win the District 3 play-offs, beating Northeastern by a 4-3 margin in corner kicks, Greencastle, 1-0, and Tulpehocken, 3-2. The team then played Upper Darby for the Inter-District Championship. After four overtime periods the score was deadlocked at 3-3. The game was well played by both teams, but fate turned against Pequea, as they were beaten by a 7-4 score in corner kicks. Paul Secunda, Albert Hershey, and Earl Lacock were picked for the first team of the county All-Stars. The second team included John Mitchell, Ron Eby, Bill Zimmerman, and Gerard DeFroscia.
