 roductions Anything Goes musical delights November crowds Anything Goes, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, got the Theatre and Music departments 1987-88 season off in November as Bill Whitcficld. Randy Ryder and Serena Jenkins gave Pcppcrdinc's Smothers Theatre light humor and songs aplenty to hum. They took audiences on a memorable journey with You’re the Top” to Dc Lovely and Friendship” to 1 Get a Kick Out of You. Whitehead was Bill Crocker. Ryder protrayed Reno Sweeney and Jenkins took on the role of Hope Harcourt. In addition to this trio, audiences got to meet Brad Kindall as Sir Evelyn Oaklcigh, Stewart O'Roukc as Moonfacc Martrin and ChrisUanne Miranda as Bonnie. These players and crew found themselves aboard the S.S. American in December 1938. And before the show was over, audiences got to see them misbehave, be like the bluebird and get back to Manhattan. Carolyn Dyer was the show's director and choreographer. Dr. Thomas Osborn was the musical director. Others coordinating the show were David Barber, lighting design; William Males, makeup design; Mark Donnelly, set design; Alison Spencer, costume design, and Sheen Lc Due, technical direction. In addition to Moonlight Harvest and the Spring Formal, several off-campus dances were held. This year the Back-to-School Dance took place on the Malibu Pier and the Homecoming Dance was held at a hotel near the Los Angeles Airport. At the end of each trimester, a dance was held to relieve some of the stress before Finals. So it's true at Seavcr as much as in Hollywood, Thai's Entertainment. In Beyond the Horizon Robert Mayo, played by Brad Klndall, dreams about all he wants to see and do. Wayward Saints captivates audiences Smothers Theatre audiences were captivated in January by A Company of Wayward Saints. For this play, playwright George Herman created La Compaignie de Sami Osiinaii, a company of strolling players, modeled on the commedia deli arte troupes that toured Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. In Fcppcrdinc's company were Brian Bremer, Scapino; Jeffrey Cooper. Harlequin: Shawn Eisner. Capitano; Robert Fiscclla, Pantalonc; C. Timothy Fletcher. Dottorc; Michele Ann McCormack. Ruffiana; Eddie Nicmcycr, Tnstano: Randy Ryder, Colombinc, and Janette Smith. Isabella. George Ncilson was the play's director, assisted by Elizabeth Luce, set and costume designer; Kermit Hcckcrt, lighting designer; Tom Gire, music composer, and William J. Males, makeup and mask designer. Beyond the Horizon enjoyed in March In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Eugene O'Neill's birth, Beyond the Horizon. directed by Dr. Jerry Henderson, was performed at Smothers Theatre in March. The play, which opened on Broadway in 1920, won the Pulitzer Prize. Brad Kindall played Robert Mayo and Kurt T.V. Vcrbaarschott was Andrew, his older brother. The pair had one thing in common, they both wanted Marie L. Barlow, who played Ruth Atkins. Others in the play were Stewart O'Rourke as James Mayo; Kchccn Brown. Kate Mayo; Robert Fiscclla, Capt. Dick Scott; Cristiannc Miranda. Mrs. Atkins; Brian Boyer, Ben, and Darin Adams, Doctor Fawcett. Henderson directed the play and was assisted by Kermit Heckcrt, set designer; David Barber, light designer; Elizabeth Luce, costume designer, and William Males, makeup designer. Activities 23
