ktoberfest By Robyn Sadler Peppcrdine hosted its own version of Wheel of Fortune during the annual Oktoberfcst celebration on Oct. 14. 1987. Intramurals sponsored the festivities, but all campus clubs and organizations had the option to participate by setting up food and game booths. This was the first year that Jo Kite, a new member of the Pcpperdine staff, coordinated Oktoberfcst. She said that she received lots of help from Jerry Shipp.” The food booths surrounded Joslyn Plaza and offered beverage, bratwurst, popcorn, pizza, cake and pretzels. All of the food, except the pizza, was provided by Marriott Food Services. While students on the meal plan received free admission to the food booths, others had to pay $2. Students, faculty, staff and administrators ate and watched several entertainment acts. The biggest hit of all was the Wheel of Fortune game, hosted by Scott Noc, freshman telecommunications major, and Jennifer Palm, sophomore organizational communications major. “The audience, said Kite, “ loved the mock show. Following the Wheel of Fortune showm. professional dancers performed traditional German waltzes and polkas. 10 Activities

ightlife By Shelly Walthall Nightlife does not exist here at Pepperdinc, many students complain. They say there is never anything to do on weekend evenings so they either stay in and study, or go home. Is there anything to do for fun on a Friday or Saturday evening in the Peppcrdine neighborhood, or further afield? The city of Malibu has a lot to offer. The various restaurants located in this beach-town give students a break from the cafeteria and from school. Gladstone's. Charthousc, Mio's and Carlos and Pope's seem to lx student’s favorites. Malibu has its own local cinema which has a different movie playing each week. Some students like to rent movies and VC'R's from the local video stores in town and watch them in their dorm lobbies or apartments. If students are tired of Malibu and want to go elsewhere for fun. many travel to Westwood. Westwood is always full of UCLA and USC students on Friday and Saturday nights. There arc not only movies to sec there but a myriad of restaurants from which to choose. “I enjoy going to Westwood w ith my friends, eating dinner and looking in all of the shops,” Traci Wallace, junior, said. Many students who enjoy dancing travel to Los Angeles or Hollywood and go to places such as die Palace or Vertigo. These clubs tend to attract many college students. However, the Rainbow- or the Roxy are favorite clubs for people who like the rock scene. There may not always be a lot to do at night on the Pepperdinc campus. With a little effort, a group of friends can have a great time both inside and outside of Malibu. Chips and salsa anyone? Soever students spend some of their evonings at Carlos Pepe s (better Known as C P's ). 12 Activities
