The new cheerleaders for 1987-1988 stunned Waves' fans with their new. improved look. Scott Rust and Brandon Williams, along with others, were faithful supporters of the Waves basketball team throughout their winning season. Opening 7 The Thetas and the Tsu Rhos teamed together to build a float to enter in the Homecoming Parade, and these two Thetas surely stole more than one heart.

By Charlene Guanco It is not every day a body of water rushes into a room and instills a sense of comradcry — this feeling of unity is only experienced when cheering for a college team. Well the surf's up and look what the tide's brought in -Pepperdine’s mascot, Willie the Wave. After several years of searching for a mascot that truly captures the Pepperdinc school spirit, the alumni and Student government officials collaborated on ideas, held a design competition, had a costume made and turned the wave concept into a reality. Willie the Wave has made several appearances at Pepperdinc athletic activities and people have mixed reactions about him. Sophomore Steve Ganobcik says, Willie the Wave is a good idea. He’s fun to watch and looks good.” If there's one thing Willie the Wave has been doing right, he is making a lot of waves. Chris DiBattisia, head of Student Government Association spirit committee, told the Los Angeles Times. “We don’t think controversy is a bad thing. We hope that he gains a lot of attention. After all, he's important. He is our school mascot.” Willie has helped to generate school spirit. Ugly or not, some people are simply, glad Pepperdinc finally has a mascot,” Melissa Wicchmann, sophomore, said.
