romenaae at During the past year a popular song, Memories Are Made of This,' was sung and hummed by students, faculty and staff members alike. To most it was just another popular song which would soon be forgotten. But did you ever wonder what composes memories? A person's memories are made up of dates, times, places, but mostly people. A memory is an odd thing. Often an individual strains to remember on important event. Instead a small insignificant happening slips in and usurps a place in that memory hoard. What are your memories made of? The following pages are a group of your memories made of Pepperdine for the school year 1955-1956. published by Associated Students, George Pepperdine College MARCIA MENKUS . Throughout his life he has sought new ideas and opportunities. The founder had two basic thoughts in mind when he established Pepperdine: he desired that young people have the opportunity to prepare for a useful life in a competitive world and he further felt that this preparation should include a basic foundation of Christian character and faith. It is an unusual and challenging experience for a school to hove a founder who takes such an interested and active part in campus affairs. Under new Head Coach John Scolinos the Pcpperdinc grid squad recorded an even 5-5 record this past season. Although the record is only average, the Waves did receive one great honor when Wixic Robinson was named the sole representative on the Associated Press little All-Americon team. Probably the Wove 1 most cherished victory of the year was the 21-0 whitewashing of Son Diego Stole in their first home encounter. With only seven players graduating from the team, the Waves promise to be even stronger next season as they enter their third year of playing an independent schedule and their second year under Scolinos. Only Captain Tom Nowlin, Don Moran. Pat Bandy, Wayne Bird, Glenn Dill, Joe Scdia and John Shelly will be lost via graduation. left lo righti Sid Shu , Bill Riven, Head Coach John Scolinot. This had to be done around the senior Captain, Ermine Zappa, a two year letterman. The remainder of the squad were mostly untried sophomores. In this group, George Taylor appeared to be a top quality player, who would be returning for the 1956-57 season. Good performances were turned in, occasionally, by Don Whitney and John Fransen. Sid VanderWeide played enough to letter and gain valuable experience for seasons to come. Further rebuilding must come again in the 1956-57 season. A fairly strong Freshmen squad should furnish needed material. However, again the lack of experience will handicap the squad.
