I9S4 PROMENADE Pul li sited l y llu Associated Student Body of Pcpperdine College Edito r... Marilyn Rector Reanei If we work marble, il will perish; if we work upon brass, time will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and instill into them just principles, we are then engraving upon tablets which no time will efface, but will brighten ond brighten to all eternity. —Daniel Webster Deiliealhm A senior about to be graduated is o strange creoture. Here He is, living in the past, the present, and the future, all at the same lime. He wonders if he has built . . . ... o firm foundation upon which his future can be safely structured. ... a future that can rekindle the embers of human worth. ... a future that can blaze forth and consume into ashes the forces of evil. Reflected in the thought of speakers at Commencement are the fears, faith and hope of all the tomorrows yet to be. But the senior realizes tomorrow's answers lie in today's actions. The graduating senior now sees that he like every individual, has a duty to perform ond a firm foundation to build if man is going to learn to express himself in terms of the real values of life. Will the senior learn that man must pull together instead of apart? Will the senior learn that man's thinking must rise to and surpass man's material progress? You, the student body, are a partial enswer to these unsolved questions. You ore tomorrow's hope. What will your fleeting thoughts reflect when you graduate? This yearbook is dedicated to you . . . and your fulfillment of mon's goal . . . PEACE . . FREEDOM . . . JUSTICE You, alone, can provide the answer . . . good or bad. CAMPUS LIFE COMMITTEE Art is not an end in itself, but o means of addressing humanity. —Moussorgsky ART One picture is worth o thousand words. So if man will open his eyes, he will see a thousand of nature's pictures during his doys' wandering. Man is himself a work of art and should take pains to study of himself and his surroundings. 38 The planned artistry of geometric lines and angles is the occupation of Hoi Tuens who is drafting plans for his future home. Handpointing materials is among the more unusual techniques provided by the Art Department. Demonstrating the art of stenciling on a rough textured fabric is Judith Picou who originated her own designs. Concerned with the cultural aspects of the Pepperdine community, the Art Department has endeavored to display famous reproductions in the foyer of the main auditorium in conjunction with forum events. Although not winning the CCAA the hard working Peps looked impressive in downing such teams as West Texas State, Pasadena Nazorcne, Loyola, Los Angeles Stole, New Mexico, Whittior and San Diego State Only because of the lac kof experience and untimely injuries throughout the season kept the Blue and Orange from going to Kansas City for the national tourney. At press time the Waves were undefeated and looked like one of the up and coming track squads in the southland. LETTERMEN’S CLUB  Throughout the colleges and universities of the United States, organizations are formed and composed of athletes who have acquired the coveted letter. Such is the case of the Pepperdine Lettermon's Club, an organization for the benefit of athletes who have letters in any of the various competitive sports sponsored by the school. The Lettermon's Club is one of the most respected clubs on the campus. 133 INTRAMURALS The Intramural program was under the able direction of Rita Jessup and Bob Kingston. Both physical education majors and graduating seniors, they set up one of the better programs in the school. Providing all a chance to play, many individual sports besides team sports were set up. Known for his outstanding work os a student leader as well os in track, Bill will be sorely missed in the years to come. One of the nation's hardest working hurdlers, it was nothing to see the Iron Man win four events in a single meet. During the past two years he has won the 100, high hurdles, 220, and low hurdles in five major meets. Winning All-American honors was just one of many achievements. Among his records, he holds three school marks and won the 440 meter hurdles in the NAIA meet. During the post summer he was picked for the All-American track team which went to Europe.
