It is also a time when all the alumni of PHS can come back and renew old friendships and memories. The theme of Homecoming was Disney Days. The week held many activities. On Monday things started off with a slave auction. The football players got the chance to buy a favorite girl for a day. Tuesday things were reversed. The girls were able to get revenge. Wednesday was Dress Up Day, students and faculty came to school dressed as their favorite Walt Disney characters. All the alumni were invited back to the campus to visit. Thursday was Mouseketeer Day. Everyone grew ears and whiskers for the occasion. Friday, the big day, started off with an assembly put on by the football players, cheers, Kitten Kadets, Band, and King and Queen candidates. KOPP. Activities got students involved with the exchange of ideas and expres- sions of emotions that, as always, were part of the living and sharing of high school. Murals were painted in the bookstore and attendence office. Bachelor's Survival was now Single Survival and the fresh ideas of a student teacher were also a change for the better. The fantastic football season inspired dancing in class and on the Drill Team and inspired life and spirit to the cam pus. Career groups took field trips and investigated opportunities of work and study in the future. And, as always, spring fever struck the Seniors who often complained of the awful malady called Senioritis. A Week That Shapes a Lifetime ANYONE WHO HAS ever gone to camp will know how it feels to be away from home, meeting new people and finding newexperi- ences. That's how it feels to go to Girls'lBoys' State. You're thrust into an entirely new environment to learn the American political process. The 4 boys and 2 girls who went to their respective states learned about political parties and their platforms, how to run for office and how to handle victory or defeat. They discussed the issues, made lifetime friendships. It was definitely a week they'll all re- member, for it influenced their entire political opinions and their views of America. It was a week that shaped their lives. ,,,,, MW: .,.,, ,,,....:..dl,,,3z,t, DOMESTIE1 xxi,fx'r1a:1a s-rem-cane: Andy Chagolla, ABOVE RIGHT, demonstrates his belief that anything can be tackled, no matter how big, if you truly want to achieve fame. Andy was elected to City Council. ABOVE: Jeannette Davis pledged a clean judicial system while running for Justice of the Peace. It was a clean campaign that won her the office. John Kowalski, RIGHT, Stated: Boys' State was a week of fun, learning and friendship that I'll remember as the best week in my high school years. John was elected to the City Council well as to the Senate. 94 as LE? Sam Dilettoso, ABOVE, LEFT, shows that the office he held at Boys' State fits right in with his basic character. Sam was the Sanitation Engineer and on the City Council. Lisa Moore, ABOVE, discovered that things get rough out in the world of politics. Although she lost in the election for Attorney General, she was elected to the City Council and helped rewrite the City Charter. LEFT: John Collins, being an expert driver, was elected as Fire Chief for his city, as well as to the County Board of Supervisor. SIRKKA-LIISA HA MA LAINEN, foreign exchange student through Youth for Understanding, arrived at Peoria High School in August from her native Finland, to spend a year in America studying and learning about life in our country. Arizona, with its hot summers, cactus, palm trees, fresh citrus and mild winters, was in contrast to Liisa's homeland. Finland has over 60,000 lakes and suffered a hard winter with sub-zero temperatures during her absence. Liisa quickly adjusted to American customs. She will leave behind a great many friends as well as her American family who has become very attached to her. But she takes with her a lifetime of memories. As Liisa says: It has been a wonderful year for me. Ishall miss you all--my friends, my American parents and sister and brothers. But I shall also remember the good times I've had in America and the wonderful times I've shared with so many of you. On November 16th, the band participated in the Cortez Marching Band Invitational, in which they did a good job. The band is expecting information that will lead it to Magic Mountain Amusement Park, just north of Hollywood, Calif. The band usually takes a trip like this, to reward its mem- bers for doing so well throughout the year. F ,gy O-ST ROWJ B. Rasche, T. Burdo, L. Green, K. Leonard, C. Craford, D. Vest, R. Lund, D. Throughout the year they hold fund raising activities, attend many field trips, and study about the Air Force and the many regulations entailed. On Tuesdays, they must wear their uniforms, so it's easy to pick them out in a crowd. This group of students are ambitious and look to- wards their futures with optimism. Some will go on to join the Air Force, while others may find that it doesn't quite fit their needs. No matter which way they go, they will all have benefitted from the experience of going through ROTC training. Although the sponsors of ROTC, Col. Coke and Sgt. Colucci, weren't available when pictures were taken, we don't want to leave them out. They taught the ROTC'ers a lot and helped them fulfill their responsibilities. FFA, for Tomorrow's Agriculture THE PEORIA CHAPTER of the Future Farmers of America had a very busy year. The year started off with the annual Barbeque, the biggest money-making event of the year. Next was the State Leadership Conference, where all state contests are held. Peoria won an award for having an out- standing chapter and the Building our American Commun- ities Award. The chapter also received these same awards on the National level. The FFA helped the City with the new parks in Peoria and helped with the Christmas boxes. This year three dances were sponsored by the Peoria Chapter, a country-western dance, a dance to raise money and canned goods for the Christmas boxes and the Sweetheart Dance. Not enough can be said about the secretaries of our school. Besides the building, they are the ones that keep the school together. Secretaries put up with an enormous amount of problems. They are not only a shoulder to cry on, but they have to take alot of hassles from teachers as well as students. If you ever need some kind of excuse why don't you go to them, they have heard them all. They are super!! I can't even begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed being Editor of the year- book. After all the work was done, I felt a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. The yearbook staff consisted of a group of very hard- working pe-ople. They worked together as friends so they would be able to produce a yearbook that you will be proud to save forever. I would like to thank these people for all the work they gladly did. I WOULD LIKE to thank lVIr. Hildreth and the photo- graphy staff for providing us with all the necessary pictures that we just couldn't do without. I would also like to thank Mrs. Hudson and David Merdlck for tak- ing the beautiful color pictures that make the book so special. Most of all I would like to thank Mrs. Hudson, our ad- visor. She was always there, ready to help. None of it would have been possible without her. With her help we were able to keep our sanity, meet our deadlines, solve our problems and have fun...all at the same time. X NLM X x K X ,xx f .y wj.
